Normally my morning tea of choice for catching up with friends is at the Hyatt but shock – horror – this is no more! The Hyatt now only offers afternoon tea with 2 sessions (starting at 11am) at a large-ish price……
Problem is I need a 10am start and I would rather not pay $52 per person!
Any suggestions?
Adore Tea at Gold Creek does a smashing High Tea. I’ve heard the one at Hotel Realm is also good.
any good cafe? or do you require cucumber sandwiches cut just so, and pimms?
kindle is nice – great macarons, too…
I hear cafe societea in griffith is pretty good
agree, $52 a head is nutty for afternoon tea
Though i’m not from Belco, I was forced to Ricardo in Jammo recently:

They do ‘high tea’, apparently, but I was more amazed at the cakes etc! See here for pics:

Cafe Injoy at Gold Creek is amazing! The staff are friendly and the cake are delicious!

+ 1 for Adore Tea. Great little Canberra based business and with a few hundred different flavours of tea (even a coffee flavoured tea for the heathens out there) much more variety than the usual latte & muffin.

I disagree, for a special occasion. If you look on it as brunch, the wonderful truth is revealed. The Hyatt is very pretty, looking out onto the gardens. Plus, importantly for some, champagne is an option.
The place in Gold Creek has nice tea, but it is still in Gold Creek, which I find both twee and frightening. (Aviary, Reptile Place and Lilutu’s excepted.)
Benedict House in Queanbeyan has a pretty funky vibe; also, just for a moment, the National Gallery has a Toulouse Lautrec High Tea but not sure if its available in the morning

I found Benedict House to be slightly lacking. Could be so much better – food ok, but to me had a bit of an old persons vibe, with not such attentive service.

Surely that should be a Toulouse- Lautrec low tea. With absinthe.
We love high tea at Homestead Cafe Gooromon Park (cant spell) out in Wallaroo/Hall ! I think they only open early enough for you on the weekend though.
Is that joint in the basement of 470 Northbourne still open?

well as a non drinker champagne does nothing for me and if it was included in a $52 price, it wouldn’t be a good one anyway
i heard the hyatt is slipping big time – shame cos it’s walking distance from me and it’d be nice to go there now and then
and anyway, the poster is asking for alternatives as $52 is too steep for the purpose (catching up, not special occasion)
