Take a hike: McQuoids Hill

Today’s adventure was inspired by my walking companion, who is staying in Kambah and suggested that we tackle the track and hill closest to him. Having recently walked the picturesque Cooleman Ridge Nature Park trail, which extends all the way from Weston Creek to the north-west end of Kambah, it seemed like the perfect continuation of [...]

Mount Gingera Trail Pics (Aug 2012)

By 8 September 2012

I went up the Mount Gingera trail a few weeks ago, thought I’d post up a few pics..  Was a bit dangerous though as I kept losing the track under the snow (and I was on my own), so I’m happy to mark it out a bit better during the spring.  Any suggestions?  A few [...]

Snow in the Canberra mountains

Jivrashia has sent in this picture of the snow in the Brindabellas with this cautionary tale:
Thought I should share this as the Brindabella range is currently covered in thick snow and anyone attempting to trek through it should be well equipped.
The picture is along the Stockyard Spur trail, leading to Mt. Franklin Rd.
It seems that [...]

Corin Dam / Stockyard Spur Trail

Has anyone been up this trail recently?  We went up last year and loved it…  lots of snow up the top although there are no reports of any snow recently (even though it seems cold enough).
Either way, a REALLY good walk, really enjoyed it..

Day snow fun in the Brindabellas?

By 19 July 2011

Trying to get meaningful information about snow up in the hills around Canberra is quite difficult.  However a few weeks ago I went for a walk from Corin Dam up to the hill there and there was a few inches of snow up the top.  Quite pretty.  That’s all I wanted.  I was happy.
However, I [...]

Bushwalking in Canberra

By 30 November 2010

Hi all,
One of the things I love most about Canberra is the fact that you can see the mountains from the city, particularly those in the distance beyond Tuggeranong. The Brindabellas?
I assume it must be possible to go bushwalking / hiking in these mountains and was after some advice.
My basic question is: I would like [...]

Images of Canberra – the first dusting of snow

Yesterday was, as I’m sure many of you noticed, colder that a witch’s teats (and a big hello to our our wiccan readers). For the technically minded the apparent temperature yesterday reached the lofty height of 1.1 degrees if you don’t count the balmy max of 1.7 degrees reached at 12.30am, from which point it [...]
