I’m curious as to the legalities of the mini bus lanes at many Canberra intersections. I understand that they are there to allow busses a head start on the green so they can merge more safely in heavy traffic. But all too many times I’ve had busses come barrelling up from behind when traffic [...]
Due to the increased traffic congestion in the mornings, I’ve started using my motorbike to travel to work.
I’m trying to plan the quickest route based on where the bus lanes are (motorcyclists can use them).
Is there a map showing all bus lanes in ACT?
Territory and Municipal Services informs us that the long agony of Barry Drive might finally be coming to an end:
The ACT Government wishes to advise motorists and other road users that the bus lane along Barry Drive will be reinstated for bus traffic only from 11 am tomorrow, Thursday 20 December 2012.
The upgrade works [...]
Chief Minister Gallagher is calling for feedback on plans for the proposed dedicated bus priority lane on Canberra Avenue.
“The ACT Government is committed under Transport for Canberra to increase work trips using buses to 16% by 2026. Putting in measures which give buses priority over other traffic will help encourage more people to make the [...]
Territory and Municipal Services have released what they’re going to do with $42 million from the Federales as a Centenary gift.
In celebration of the Centenary of Canberra in 2013, the Australian Government has gifted $42 million to the ACT Government for the upgrade of Constitution Avenue. The upgrade project will deliver major transport infrastructure improvements [...]
Chief Minister Gallagher has weighed in on the bus lane v T2 debate (bearing in mind that the “one nation on wheels” courting Liberals are mad keen for T2′s).
Katy is citing research purportedly hidden somewhere on the TAMS website, showing T2′s are kind of useless, but bus lanes are grand!
“Surveys undertaken during the morning peak [...]
The Liberals’ Zed Seselja has announced he’d make the Barry Drive bus lane a T2 if he gets elected.
“The Canberra Liberals will move to open this lane to T2 Traffic, that is all vehicles with two or more passengers on board. The infrastructure is there, but we don’t use it. It will cost nothing, and [...]
Simon Corbell has announced his thinking so far on a transitway between Gungahlin and Civic.
It appears very likely the median strip of Northbourne is going to get used for something. You might take as a clue that his office have sent out a lovely artists drawing of light rail arriving in Civic:
“The Government is considering [...]
Chief Minister Gallagher is letting us know she’s been chatting with Queanbeyan Mayor Tim Overall.
Sadly I’m blowed if I can find an actual outcome from the discussion but here’s some of the things htye’ve been chatting about:
– Canberra Avenue bus lanes.
– Queanbeyan pumping its crap into our lake
– The Queanbeyan ring road
– Doing something jointly [...]
Chief Minister Stanhope is celebrating the completion of the $1.8 million Flemington Road bus lane:
Work has been completed on the $1.8 million Flemington Road bus lane that will reduce travel times for bus patrons travelling from Gungahlin to the City by up to 10 minutes, Chief Minister and Minister for Transport, Jon Stanhope, announced [...]
Jon Stanhope was Chief Minister when the on-road cycle paths were marked out on Northbourne Avenue. It constricted traffic and reduced speed limits (which in turn reduces the number of cars that can transit in a given period of time).
So it comes as a bit of a surprise that he’s now noticed this key arterial [...]
