The late night inebriate needs an occasional bus service like a fish needs a bicycle.
But Simon Corbell has announced that the very expensive and doomed to fail exercise in keeping the Greens happy known as the the Nightrider bus will be returning this festive season.
“Nightrider will run most Friday and Saturday nights in December, with [...]
The Greens’ Amanda Bresnan is taking credit for the Mitchell Park & Ride facility which Simon Corbell is opening today.

Back on 4 November we noted moves afoot to change the Adelaide Avenue T2 lane back into a bus lane.
Today the Liberals’ Alistair Coe is deploying some interesting logic to decry the move:
The Canberra Liberals strongly disagree with ACT Labor’s removal of the T2 lane on Adelaide Avenue, and will take every step to reverse [...]
ACT Light Rail today provided the ACT Government with their submission in response to the draft ‘Transport for a Sustainable City 2011-2031’ transport planning document.
Mr Damien Haas, Chair of ACT Light Rail, said that the plan was a disappointment in that it was locking Canberra into a high density, congested, car-dependent culture – while the [...]
ACTION are warning that the Civic Revitalisation Program is going to be causing trouble with the bus interchange as pavement work is conducted.
First off the bat platform 5 is being moved behind platform 3 from Monday 14 November.
The Canberra Times has a piece blaming light rail fans in Canberra for the ever more expensive and less useful bus service.
Dr Mees revealed his submission to Environment Minister Simon Corbell yesterday, saying the Government’s plan ”is fundamentally flawed, because it perpetuates the policy mistakes that have seen public transport in Canberra decline at [...]
Territory And Municipal Services have announced that the ACT Government’s ongoing love of the vacuity of Twitter continues apace with the launch of an ACTION twitter account.
“The site will allow ACTION to communicate instantly and directly with the public, particularly the growing number of people who use smartphones,” Mr Roncon said.
“ACTION’s Twitter site will provide [...]
That buses are much more efficient than cars is almost an article of faith. In theory it should be true, though I can’t help wonder. Canberra’s layout mitigates against public transport (unfortunately) and I’ve never heard of any actual research (though absence of evidence is not evidence of absence).
I’m not anti-public transport – far from [...]
ACTION’s proposed weekday bus network for 2012 has been released by Transport for Canberra, with residents in Canberra’s newest suburbs in Gungahlin set to benefit as services are directed through Bonner, Casey, Crace and Forde whilst other established suburbs will receive more services.
Elsewhere, Kippax will benefit from Blue Rapid services and there will be changes [...]

ACTION’s Blue Rapid 300 series (300, 312, 313, 314, 315, 318 and [...]
It has come to my attention that there is a serious disregard for the law by no lesser citizens than our own ACT bus drivers. Every day, from morning ’til night and beyond, in a complete and flagrant display of law-breaking, buses enter the T2/Bus transit lane heading northward from Woden.
“Well what’s wrong with that?” [...]
Simon Corbell has announced the launch of the much anticipated draft Transport for Canberra policy
Last week we noted that Google Maps had added ACTION timetable data enabling the use of google maps trip planning with the bus routes.
This works both for the maps app on smartphones as well as google maps in web browsers.
Today Simon Corbell has officially announced it:
A new online journey planner which can be accessed from [...]
Whilst fiddling around tonight with Google maps I made an astonishing discovery, public transit data is available for Canberra.
This means using the directions function in Google Maps, you can select where you are, where you want to go, and when you want to get there, and Google will tell you the best way to do [...]
I was driving North on Northbourne Ave yesterday towards the Dickson intersection at 2.45pm. There was a fairly long line of cars in the lane to turn right into Antil St, so I decided to go straight instead. As I approached the red lights, I noticed the bus driver getting out of his bus. I [...]

ACTION will be implementing a Real Time Passenger Information System by 2013, which aims to provide passengers with information about the timeliness of busses they’re trying to catch. All the available details are on the ACT Transport site.
I’m sure some people will find this interesting. Will you make use of the RTPIS when it is [...]
Deane’s are about to pull the plug on their airliner and there’s no Action buses going through Brindabella Park on the weekends.
I wonder if there is another capital city in the Western World with a similar lack of transport to and from its’ airport?
I can’t believe the damage that has recently been done (and fixed, well done) to the new bus shelters being erected in and around Canberra. This particularly applies to those down Northbourne Ave towards Civic.
I don’t catch buses often but feel for those that do and that they must suffer severe weather conditions as a [...]
Today we made a MyBus Android Market update.
The new feature allows you to search for bus routes by suburb. This will help first time users of Action buses, who don’t yet know which route number they need, as well as finding bus routes you don’t normally use.
This new feature links in to [...]
ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to a road rage incident between a Land Cruiser and an ACTION bus which occurred yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, August 17) on Hopetoun Circuit in Yarralumla.
About 3.10pm, the bus carrying school children was on Hopetoun Circuit when a beige Toyota Land Cruiser attempted to overtake it, colliding with the side of [...]
Gungahlin Al has sent this one in, taken this very morning.

The industrious Alistair Coe has revealed the fruits of his digging into ACTION breakdown statistics.
“Bus breakdowns have increased markedly over the past year and its unacceptable for Canberrans to be paying so much for an unreliable and infrequent bus service,” Mr Coe said.
“Last financial year, ACTION buses broke down more than 1400 times, which equates [...]
