The Canberra Musicians Club is doing regular Wednesday night spots at the newly revamped Smiths Alternative in Civic.
Last night I braved the cold and wet to check it out.
The first thing any inner city venue needs is bicycle parking in spades. In this day and age driving to a gig is nothing short of tragic.
A lot of things in this life are good fun until people start taking it seriously.
And quite why the Canberra Musicians Club is running knockout table tennis tournaments is a bit of a mystery.
But they do indeed happen and as a first round victim I can attest the standard is, if not high, then very [...]
The Canberra Musicians Club at the O’Connor Polish Club roared into life for the new year last night with Fun Machine supported by Dahrnoir and the Brass Knuckle Brass band.
Once again they had to close the doors as a big crowd knocked back the Polish goodness and got their groove on.
If you haven’t had the [...]
The best place to be in Canberra this New Year’s Eve was the Canberra Musician’s Club’s bash at the Polish White Eagle Club.
‘pling was kind enough to take some photographs to record the event for posterity.
Here’s a quick slideshow for those who missed it and those who want to remember.
If you’re in Canberra next year [...]
They grow up so fast.
Last night the Canberra Musicians Club had its 4th birthday at the O’Connor Polish Club.
As has been the club’s way there was original music, there was dancing, and being at the polo there was polish beer and honey vodka in abundance.
Long may it last!
Friday night saw the start of what is to be a regular run of Canberra Musician’s Club Friday night shows at the White Eagle Polish Club at O’Connor shops.
Kicking off the Street Funk Shakedown (such was the name of last night’s festivities) were Alice Cottee’s No Hausfrau, Sean Smeeton’s Zoopagoo (a rare double billing for [...]

Friday night 10 August, White Eagle Polish Club, Turner
The Brass Knuckle Brass Band is back from its hard-eating, moderate-partying and tabasco-swilling tour of Queensland; it seeks once again to make Canberra fans dance around the Polish club in a jovial fashion. The Canberra Musicians Club was nice enough to facilitate this.
Hence, the [...]
Qednet has sent in a very cute time lapse video of what it takes to set up a Canberra Musician’s Club show at the Polish Club in O’Connor.
Nice instrumental set by Dubba Rukki hitting the beats too.

Prince among men Nigel McRae has let it be known on Facebook that there’s going to be a rumble at the Polish Club this Saturday Night:

This in from the Canberra Musicians Club:
Melbourne band The Bon Scotts will be appearing on the CMC stage at the Polish Club on July 20 as part of their national tour.
Unearthed says The Bon Scotts defy notions of plain and normal, melding traditional folk instruments with an endearing and satirical voice. Laced with irony [...]

Facebook brings word of a Julia and the Deep Sea Sirens show at the Polo:
Julia and the Deep Sea Sirens will use any excuse to cook up a night of music, whimsy, fairy lights and fake flowers, and the 52nd Day of Spring seemed as good a reason as any. On October 22 (The 52nd [...]

The Canberra Musician’s Club is launching a campaign via Facebook to save McGregor hall.
The hall, notionally home to the Canberra Pensioner’s Club has been an on and off redoubt of local entertainment endeavour (and also rightly famous for the devastatingly handsome bar staff) for many long years but the [...]
[ 11 June, 2010; ]
A few weeks ago I got a lift with James Fahy and Joe Oppenheimer. James was playing guitar with the neck out the window. Joe was playing a melodica. Then I realised no-one was actually driving.
I suspect this Friday at Macgregor Hall is going to be a bit like that. Only with less chance of [...]
If one is fortunate enough not to live in the windswept wastelands which girt the city then Canberra is an eminently pleasant place to live. But lacking in the real highlights of Australian coastal cities.
Except that is until summer rolls around and the Canberra Musician’s Club Backyard Backanalia’s get going.
The $50 to join the club [...]

So there I was listening to Chief Minister’s talkback on 666 and between the usual old farts, party shills and other assorted nutbaggery I was surprised to hear a familiar voice.
Here’s a link to a recording of the segment.
There on the radio was the drop-in star of last [...]

The second installment of Matty Ellis’s four part series of musical evenings “The Band Broke Up” took place last night at The Front in Lyneham.
A blokey panel of singers got the crowd deeply involved with much singing along.
A happy knitter could even be found in the crowd (caught in the video, you’ll have to wait [...]
