Canberra Chronicle – stopping unwanted deliveries

By 7 September, 2010

[First filed: Sep 6, 2010 @ 9:35]
[Proof drivers can achieve tight groupings over time]
I do not want the Canberra Chronicle delivered.  The only reason it is delivered free is because it makes enough revenue from advertisers to be economically feasible to publish and deliver.
My reasons are: – the cost to cut the trees down, [...]

Yum cha closed again at Deakin?

By 8 July, 2010

Recently went to the Canberra Croation Soccer Club at Deakin looking forward to a nice lunch with some retired mates.  Signed them in, only to notice the staircase was blockaded with a short note saying the Chinese restaurant was closed indefinitely.
Last year they were bluing with the acting manager, but won that round.
Is this round [...]

Friday may have been cold outside, but in Street Two there was warmth to spare with the opening of William Zappa’s Winter’s Discontent. As You Like It café poured out glasses of French wine served with delicious duck and camembert canapés inspired by Zappa’s muse, Les Miserables’ rascally innkeeper Thenardier (though the food was much [...]

New look Canberra Times

By 20 May, 2010

Some changes are afoot at The Canberra Times.
They’ve been running a teaser for a week or so, but it doesn’t give much away.
“Saturdays are about to get even better. New Look edition unfolding June 2010″
Clearly it won’t be anything as radical as moving from spreadsheet to tabloid. If that was going to happen, I think [...]

By 14 February, 2010

Hi,

Does anyone have any knowledge of where this [...]

Hail Storm

By 27 May, 2008

It was a decent little hail storm last night, not a super cell like last year, but enough to do some damage and overflow the gutters.
Anyone see or hear about anything spectacular?

Zierholz free beer tasting at Debacle

By 23 May, 2008

Last night I attended the Zierholz free beer tasting
As some may have picked up already - I found out yesterday that I’ve known Cristoph’s brother for several years, but I don’t think that matters for the purposes of the review.
Details:
Debacle turns out to be the first location in Canberra that hosted Zierholz on tap, and they have [...]

Possible solutions to vehicle based fuel theft

By 23 May, 2008

Back on the 13th May 2008, the Canberra Times ran an article about the fuel theft that has started to occur as a result of number-plates being stolen from cars. Obviously a number plate can be removed from a car even if you use tamper proof screws (if you are determined enough you would just jemmy the plate [...]

ACT recognises same sex couples

Ironically, the lifestyle section of the SMH is reporting that a number of same-sex couples in Canberra have applied to have their partnership legally recognised after new laws came into effect in the ACT.
ACT Attorney-General Simon Corbell said civil partnership registrations were now possible following the official commencement of the territory government’s Civil Partnerships Act.

Kangaroo Protesters – Their opinions in their own words

By 22 May, 2008

I went out to the Lawson Naval Base this afternoon to have a chat with and video the protesters that have set up a vigil outside the main gate.I allowed the people I spoke with to express their opinions in their own words without the usual editing that occurs when a media grab is taken [...]

How to Secure Water

By 21 May, 2008

The ABC have this story on the ACT govt deciding that they will finally do something to look after Canberra’s future water supply. For $300mil we’ll get a bigger Cotter dam, steal water from the Murrumbidgee for Googong (Goulburn will then steal it again), buy water from Snowy Hydro and build a water recycling [...]

Kangaroo cull attracting misguided protesters

By 21 May, 2008

The Lawson Kangaroo cull has attracted a large amount of media attention over the past months. The trade off between relocation and just knocking them off has come down to a cost issue and since the Federal Government isn’t ponying up the cash to relocate it’s back to the lethal injection for skippy.
I [...]

By 20 May, 2008

I live in the City, Reid to be presise, and I was awoken lastnight by an alarm or siren at around 4:30 or 5am. It’s a real “whoop whoop” sound and it’s even got some kind of PA system, which I can never hear properly.
I hear this stupid alarm going off all the time and [...]

By 18 May, 2008

Planning authority building blunder hiding something

By 18 May, 2008

As reported in the news ACTPLA accidentally approved three buildings on the Kingston foreshore to have five floors instead of four as dictated by the Territory plan. Interestingly a web search shows the ACT Government and the developers released a media release in December 2006 which clearly states “The blocks provide an opportunity to build [...]

Power station consultation flawed

By 17 May, 2008

Deb Foskey, as stated in this ABC online article, has come out swinging saying that the ACT Government’s consultation process for the proposed gas fired power station in the southern Canberra suburb of Tuggeranong is deeply flawed.
(A point here, I thought it was at Hume but Ms Foskey may have been misquoted)
Whatever the case, [...]
