It takes about a year to get my coffee.
No not really but they fail the three minute test.
A nice roast though.
Deep, woody, mocca, rich.
Alive on the tongue.
Though not strictly a cafe, I’m here because it’s night.
Cafes are thin on the ground.
You can treat this venue as a cafe, day or night, and it does a [...]
Two good things with this very busy coffee place; it’s open at 7am, and they roast coffee.
However, not much point roasting your own if your going to burn the milk.
There is a spacious open kitchen feel to this venue with glass folding back down one whole side of the cafe, over a bar cafe style [...]
Since its humble beginnings in 2002, Coffee Guru has grown into a successful chain with established franchise stores across Canberra and New South Wales.
I had a chat with Coffee Guru’s Dean Crowe about coffee, business, and why franchising is a good idea.
Dean Crowe tells me he is a Piccolo Latte kind of guy, due to [...]
Daringly called “Cafe” this place can be found at the turn off to Broulee at Mogo.
For a longtime this was a junkyard next to the creek with a sign that promised a non existant Cafe. Now a cafe does exist here and even proffers a passable brew.
I didn’t have to wait long for my coffee [...]
This from Rioter RFS:
Due to circumstances beyond my control I’ve been without my camera for several weeks. Now that unfortunate situation has been rectified I’d like to point out to you to that The Imperial Cupping Room on the corner of University Ave & London Circuit is soon to open. I’ve been told the rather [...]
Meet Patrick. Patrick is an entrepreneur. Earlier this year he set up a coffee machine by one of the main cycleways running from the Inner North of Canberra (where I live) into the City … he makes very good coffee and I always stop for an espresso (that settles in the glass like tap Guinness!) [...]
Obviously not worried about the budget or the upcoming election result I’m happy to see that LSR 23 is expanding into what was once Pink Inc.
While we have enjoyed sitting outside each weekend on stools that go ‘weeeee’ according to the soon to be two year old the colder months weren’t looking so good [...]
Canberra is apparently about average when it comes to cost of a cappuccino, according to the Gilkatho Cappuccino Price Index for Q1 this year
I went searching after seeing this article on another news website
Maybe this is why petrol is more expensive?
[ED - alternatively there's the glory of the Aldi coffee machine pictured]
Here’s something new: a bike-path side café.
I was feeling a little lost as my daughter was off on camp, so I went for a ride, and came upon this little bit of free enterprise on the bike-path between MacArthur Avenue and David Street in O’Connor. And yes, it’s all properly approved by the Authoritahs.
The very [...]
This in for your consideration:

When you pop into Rocksalt, 39 Steps and Gryphons today and buy your favourite cup of coffee you can savour it even more knowing you are helping needy local charities. For every [...]
Those of you who shop in Florey will know all about the nice little coffee shop there named The Perfect Bean. After two years the owner has decided it’s time to wrap it up which is very sad news for those of us who enjoy a good cuppa.
Geoff runs the coffee shop and he’s a [...]
I have to drop someone off at Jolimont at 6:30 tomorrow morning.
Is there anywhere around there that might be open for a coffee at six-ish?
The strange sniping between Canberra’s lower house MPs has taken a new turn with Fraser’s Andrew Leigh challenging the champion of the Southside Gai Brodtmann to a coffee comparison:
As a first step, let’s answer a simple question: is the coffee better or the northside or southside? To test this, Gai and I will each nominate [...]
I love iced black coffee but I cannot seem to get one at regular coffee shops.
I know Starbucks has it but there is none in Canberra.
I ordered an espresso shot over a glass of ice cubes once but it did not come out right because the barista did not know what she was [...]
Over to you Rioters
Daryl Hehir-Nielsen, owner of Deakin cafe Double Shot is in the Canberra Times calling for regulation of Canberra’s coffee shops. Apparently, he’s none too happy with every new building having a coffee shop downstairs, nor does he like groups of cyclists turning up without calling first. It’s a curious pair of complaints, he doesn’t want [...]
Whether it’s your morning pick-me-up, social lubricant, or lifelong passion, few things are more evocative than coffee. And as the Canberra days turn colder, the city’s cafés will see a growing flock of people come through their doors in search of a warming espresso beverage. Luckily for Canberrans, there’s no better time than now to [...]
Anyone have any favourite places to hang out and have a cuppa in Charnwood area?
Only place I’ve been able to find is McDonald’s and I’ve decided one of my new year’s resolutions will be not to buy anything from them this year in protest of the horrendous service. They don’t seen to care about anything [...]
Can anyone recommend a great coffee shop that is open before 7am on the Northside?
My favourite, Spill the Beans in Dickson has closed and the new owners look like they will not be opening till later.
All suggestions welcome, particularly useful ones.
I’ve committed to drinking only fairtrade coffee, so I need to know which cafes in Canberra and surrounds are fairtrade certified. Two places I know:
Colbee Court, Phillip, 8am-5pm Mon to Fri, 8am-2pm Sat
Coffee is certified organic and certified fairtrade. Great range of salads – good vegetarian/vegan options, also lots of gluten free. Excellent prices and friendly service.
Woden Library, opens [...]
Have moved jobs to Fyshwick – can’t find any decent coffee here.
Tried several like Pelligrinos, the Harley place, Buzz but all very average.
Does anyone know a good coffee place??

After a long delay I finally got access over the weekend to the storage unit my things were in.
I hadn’t really understood what I’d been missing out on until I unpacked my coffee grinder and espresso pot.
$6.50 got me 200g of arabica at the local IGA and in [...]
I’ve organised a coffee meet for this coming Monday for freelancers and entrepreneurs (or people who are looking to work for themselves). It’s an alternative to the higher-end events like Schmooze and the first couple of events will be simply meeting and having a coffee or going to the pub.
Maybe after a few events [...]
I am the worst kind of coffee wanker.
I’ve just returned from 9 years in West End, Brisbane, where my coffee whims were met by one of the exceptional cafes within walking distance of my house. Perfect coffees every time, witty baristas with entertaining observations on the state of play and a daily ritual that felt [...]
I can’t imagine that I am the only person in Canberra who hates waiting to order my coffee. There is nothing particularly romantic about watching time slip by as the suit wearing guy in front of me changes his mind between the chai latte and double shot short black; in fact, this entire process has [...]
Canberra-ites – are YOU interested in opening a cafe? Try this quick quiz to see whether or not your customer service skills meet the high quality we’ve come to expect in our fine capital.
Here is a hypothetical scenario. Read it carefully and then answer the questions below.
Imagine that it is a typical cloudy, cold winter’s [...]
Well, I just had a Vanilla Slice from Cafe Gaudi. They’re usually quite nice and made by some private baker. The thing I’ve noticed about them is they leave the old stock on the cake shelves for too long. Today the shelf was full so I thought they’d be nice. I’d got back to work [...]
Over on the Starbucks closure story OzChick of the eagle eyes has pointed out that Manuka is not listed in the detailed store closures list.
So Manuka is considered to be part of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane?
UPDATED: Whoops, word comes that it closed a while ago. There I was fooled by local news types doing pieces [...]
I work in the city and I’ll be stuffed if I can find a place that will sell me a coffee which hasn’t had the grind burned (the republic), the milk cooked to shit (take your pick) of half filled when they can’t be arsed (the republic again).
If had mostly good coffee at Kaldi [...]
Recently on 19-20 April 2008 the Canberra leg of the 2008 AASCA (AustralAsian Specialty Coffee Association) Championship Circuit was held at the Parvaiz Café in Forrest. Congratulations go to Patrick Connolly (not sure where he works – anyone?) ACT’s new Barista Champion. Runner up was Bobby from Gus’s café. Couldn’t find a list [...]
This morning, like many other Australians, I headed down to my local cafe for a coffee. So I ordered and waited patiently for my takeaway latte at this Manuka cafe, thinking about the day ahead. I was quickly snapped back to reality when I was told my lattee was going to cost me $4.20. Well, I nearly fell over. There were [...]
It’s very hard to find a good coffee in Canberra. Does anyone know where can I get a cup of good coffee in Canberra (North)?
[Ed (Kramer) - you could always search RiotACT for previous articles on coffee, like:
Coffee in Canberra
Passion of the Caff
...but, as I'm a huge caffiene addict, I'm not going to stand in [...]
