By 26 December, 2012

So this is what Dickson looks like this boxing day morning.
Congratulations to every lazy dirty bogan who was so keen to “give to charity” they couldn’t be arsed doing their illegal dumping at the tip.
You walk amongst us and for reasons passing understanding we’re not allowed to brand your foreheads for easy identification.

Illegal dumping at public housing flats in Watson

By 9 March, 2012

I just reported the issue with dumping rubbish on the footpath in the street that runs along the back of the Watson shops for the 3rd time. First time I sent a report through the Fix My Street service was early July last year. Then sent a follow up with these pictures at the end [...]

Illegal dumping? Or just forgetful?

By 28 February, 2012

Curious happenings at Westfield Woden. As I parked, some bogans (2 mothers with kids and some rough looking bloke) returned to their 4WD with a pair of prams, swearing at one another about some disagreement. When I returned, they were gone but one of the prams remained. Did they forget? Or was it broken and [...]

By 25 February, 2012

RB78 has brought the happy news that Gungahlin is not being left behind by West Belconnen in the race to establish free tv dumping grounds.
Hi Guys,
Looks like Gungahlin has a newer TV dump than West Belconnen – saw this on Amy Ackman Street in Forde today. (reminded me of this thread)

And the Mully Cup for December 2011 goes to Sylvia from This Is Not Charity

By 3 January, 2012

The Mully Cup very nearly went to Cat Throwing Teenagers. But in the end the cup has been awarded to Sylvia from this is not charity.
Proving that the silly season is an excellent time to kick off a media campaign as bored hacks will jump at anything she kicked things off with an incendiary post [...]

Bike Dumper trumps Trolley Dumpers

By 31 December, 2011

Canberra Trolley Dumpers have found life boring since the new laws, and so have moved on to burning and dumping motor bikes.
If any Rioters are missing their Yamaha road bike, it could be this under David St in Turner.

This is not charity. Dumping in Canberra

By 28 December, 2011

On the afternoon of Tuesday, 28 December 2011, I went to the Southlands (Mawson) charity bins to donate some clothes to charity by placing them in the bins. Found a disgraceful mess. Ended up taking clothes home. Had camera with me, and decided to take some pics. Decided to visit other [...]

Where Shopping Trolleys Go To Die…

By 29 November, 2011

Spotted along the storm water drain as I ride to work – three abandoned shopping trolleys from one of the two major grocery stores. These three happen to be from the red, white and green store.
If you shop at either the red, white and green store, or the red and white store, you are [...]

Dude, where’s my driveway?

By 19 October, 2011

We have come home yesterday afternoon to a load of ground up concrete (called road bases I think?) on our driveway.
Haven’t bought a load of road base, do not need a load of road base so we are not sure what do do next.
We live in the Evatt area.
Anyone expecting a delivery that didn’t make [...]

By 17 October, 2011

Stuart has sent this gem in with this note:
The charity bins at Kippax are treated as nothing more than a cheaper version of the tip by many people. So here’s the Government’s reaction to the problem. Good to see it’s proving so effective…
(it’s nice to see that someone’s thoughtfully made sure to include [...]

Dumping in Duffy

By 13 September, 2011

These are from a block on Eucumbene Drive Duffy. I’ve seen men in white hazmat suits taking stuff away.
I like the couch in the sewage pipe hole that was 10ft deep.
It used to be a cool place to have a fire and a few beers at night with mates.
I don’t think my [...]

All you can dump for just $40 at the yacht club?

By 19 April, 2011

Pantsman has sent in this sign offering very affordable garbage disposal for a big load with the following note:
This sign appears to have fallen through all three levels of government. Don’t know if it a Stanhope, NCA, or Commonwealth ‘s fault. We’ll need an inquiry / taskforce to get this sorted.

Shopping Trolley laws really making a difference?

By 24 March, 2011

It’s been nearly a month since the new shopping trolley laws came into effect.
And so I wandered down to the taxi rank at the corner of Bunda and Mort streets where trolleys are frequently dumped to see how it’s going.
The answer is there are actually more abandoned trolleys than before the laws came into effect. [...]

Cleaning Up Vacant Crown Land in the ACT?

By 2 March, 2011

Does anyone know who is responsible for cleaning up vacant crown land in the ACT?
In our Belconnen townhouse development we have at least two parcels of vacant crown land which have block and section numbers but no issued title.
One is a carpark, the other is a laneway.
Neither are cared for and have become [...]

People really are crap – RSPCA asks to not be used as a kennel

By 16 December, 2010

Sometimes I really despair of humanity.
The RSPCA has put out a media release asking the scum of the earth to not dump their pets instead of kennelling them.
“Each year many people don’t plan for boarding kennels over the Christmas holidays and so they abandon their pets to us, and then get another dog the following [...]

CCTV bandaid for failed waste policies

By 21 July, 2010

Chief Minister Stanhope is unwittingly identifying another abject policy failure. This time announcing “Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at 24-hour recycling centres in an effort to curb illegal dumping and the associated clean-up costs”.
The ACT Government manages six drop-off recycling centres which collectively accept over 3700 tonnes of recyclables each year.
However some Canberrans are [...]

What’s Going On Here

By 16 November, 2009

We get told off time and time again for illegal littering, etc. Well it would appear if those we hire out to take our rubbish are dumping rubbish another way.
The below photo was taken from the carpark on Lady Denman Drive near the Glenloch Interchange.
This truck was there for a while, but nothing around it [...]

Fly tipping Mt Painter

By 29 May, 2009

Whilst walking the dogs this morning I came across this pleasant sight. Think about this. Someone had to lad this into a vehicle capable of carrying it, drive it to this spot, (probably in the dark) dump it, and either smash it up there, or leave it for other mouth breathers to smash up. [...]

By 5 December, 2008

I noticed today that the illegal asbestos dump in Bruce (see this earlier RiotACT coverage) has now been cleaned up, with the site scraped completely clean.
I guess, sometimes, the system really does work.
