Fyshwick store evacuated Customers and staff were evacuated from a Fyshwick retail outlet this afternoon after the presence of smoke.
The ACT Fire Brigade were called to WOW Sight and Sound after receiving an automatic fire alarm at 1:34.

Illegal Thai sex workers busted in Canberra brothels

The Sydney Morning Herald has the news that a group of illegal Thai sex workers have been caught by Immigrations raids on two Canberra brothels in Fyshwick.
A departmental spokesman said three of the women had been taken to Villawood detention centre in NSW, pending their removal from Australia.

From someone who works out there, I hear that large sections of Fyshwick have been having multiple, daily power outages for the last two weeks.  The area affected appears to be at least from Towsville St through to Harvey Norman (Barrier St).  One person suggested the entire Fyshwick ‘suburb’ might be affected.
