The CMC stage at the Polo, lurking in the shadow of Canberra’s inner north real estate boom is winding up next week with some more awesomeness. On Thursday December 5 Tiger and Me with support from the Bearded Gypsy Band will start festivities.
Then on Friday December 6 The Crooked Fiddle Band will unleash their [...]
The Canberra Musicians Club is doing regular Wednesday night spots at the newly revamped Smiths Alternative in Civic.
Last night I braved the cold and wet to check it out.
The first thing any inner city venue needs is bicycle parking in spades. In this day and age driving to a gig is nothing short of tragic.
[ 24 April 2013; ] Awesome Melbourne band and Oz rock stalwarts ‘King of the North’ are heading our way to The Basement on 24th April.
Catch these guys before their rock explosion goes viral.
Following on from supporting ‘Cold Chisel’ last year and many residencies including the iconic Esplanade Hotel (home of RocKwiz), this surprisingly huge-sounding 2-piece are on an Australian [...]
I don’t think it was that long ago that I used to be able to check out a gig guide and find a litany of upcoming fairly major Australian, and sometimes international acts. We’d get enough that my disappointment was generally around an inability to go to all of them. January/February was always a particularly [...]

And so Digress on Akuna Street (formerly the Akuna Club) had a hitout as a live music venue.
With a very strong lineup supporting the launch of the popular singer-songwriter Bryony Aziz a good crowd was always on the cards.
The venue, however, has some bugs to iron out as a music venue. Not least of which [...]

Cell Block 69′s annual gig at the ANU bar on Friday night was just fantastic. Never been before – best $15 I’ve ever spent on live entertainment – a thumping, nostalgic orgy of camp, pop-rock cabaret. Musically, wonderful. CellBlock 69 are performers of a too-rare variety – thrilled to be there, loving the fans, sweating [...]
We’ve been hearing that Tuggeranong’s leading music venue, The Maram, was joining the long list of broken dreams down there.
This in from a source which goes with other things we’ve been hearing:
They haven’t been paying their bills so ACTEWAGL shut off their power, and they haven’t been paying the rent so the landlord is evicting [...]

[ 12 October 2011 at 6:30 pm; ] Given the myriad issues facing the ACT music industry it is more important now than ever for all stakeholders to have a consolidated voice. MusicACT, initially called ACT Live Music Association, formed as a direct result of the initiatives that the ACT Government and departmental staff have implemented over the past 12 months, including the [...]
Following our disappointment at last week’s government response to the live music inquiry, the Greens’ Caroling Le Couteur has now noticed that the Government isn’t actually doing anything.
“There is a major concern that Canberra’s music and arts scene is struggling in a range of ways and that we are losing a very important part of [...]
Joy Burch was talking tough when she released the Government’s response to the inquiry into live music.
A vibrant arts scene is dependent on community and Government support, and I am committed to looking at how we as a Government, and as a community can better support live music in this city.
The pity is that the [...]
I have recently started a new job in the graduate program within a government department and a lot of my new colleagues are from out of town. They have been asking me where the best places in Canberra are for live music, but not being very “in touch” with the local music scene, I haven’t [...]

Having just opened a cafe in Farrer I would like to look at putting on live music once a month perhaps on a Friday evening.
I would like to offer this opportunity to new musicians that would like to get experience playing in front of a live audience or getting their music out there.
Fresh from explosive shows at Meredith and Falls Festival and a national tour with Those Darlins (USA) and Jeff The Brotherhood (USA), the world’s only surviving triple one-man-band band take to the road to teach the people of new south wales some Spanish expletives and make them s*** their pants.
My friend and his band (Sydney-based) are starting to look at touring regionally. I was wondering if anyone might be able to give me some recommendations to give to them about possible venues they could play at in Canberra. To help match music to venue, this is their Myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/mozaiktunes.
Appreciate any thoughts people [...]
