It’s been more than a decade since Canberra’s last decent snowfall. But while experts say there’s a good chance of snow this weekend, Marcus Paul isn’t holding his breath.
May 28 back in the year 2000. This, apparently, was the last time Canberrans got a little snow crazy.

Where is winter?

I cannot believe I’m about to write this, but I’m really missing winter in our town.
Granted it’s been a little brisk, but nothing like what we would expect in June in Canberra.
I’ve long complained about frosts and cold mornings, but I want to  know where they’ve got too.
I bought this really cool pure wool pea [...]

By 6 June 2013

Dear RiotACT members
I am wondering where and when snow falls in the ACT. Obviousy Corin is one of the most popular, but do the ranges around Brindabella Rd/Piccadilly Circuis get a share of snowfall?
If I were to continue down Naas Rd towards Adaminaby would I begin to see snow along the roadside? (Not too [...]

Snow in the Canberra mountains

Jivrashia has sent in this picture of the snow in the Brindabellas with this cautionary tale:

It seems that [...]

Snow already!

By 10 April 2012

From The Eagle’s Nest we’re casting our beady eyes over the ranges of the Brindabellas and can see no sign of snow.
But the ABC has pictures of snow from surrounding parts of NSW so who are we to argue?
And to think the weather last week almost felt summery.

That looks a lot like snow out there.

By 19 August 2011

Anyone else seeing it?

Rodent went up Mt Franklin Road two weeks ago to check out the snow and sent in these pictures and an account of the experience:

Day snow fun in the Brindabellas?

By 19 July 2011

Trying to get meaningful information about snow up in the hills around Canberra is quite difficult.  However a few weeks ago I went for a walk from Corin Dam up to the hill there and there was a few inches of snow up the top.  Quite pretty.  That’s all I wanted.  I was happy.
However, I [...]

There’s No Day Like Snow Day

“The good thing about Canberra is that it’s so close to the snow” – Some jerk.
As far as back-handed compliments go, this is one of the best, but let not that proud Canberran rage get in the way of you and the snow!
We are a mere 3 hour drive from a type of cold that [...]

Advice for overnighting at the snow?

By 14 June 2011

I have some friends visiting from QLD in a few weeks and they are hoping to pop down to the snow for an overnight trip.

They’re more just looking for somewhere [...]
