The ACT Rural Fire Service (ACTRFS) will today, Tuesday 4 September, 2012, weather permitting, conduct a hazard reduction burn at the property Cuppacumbalong, Naas Road, Tharwa, from 11am till 5pm.

One heavy tanker, one light unit, one command vehicle and eight personnel will conduct the burn covering a total area of approx two hectare in size.

The ACT Handy Map grid reference for the Chapman burn is J17.

The purpose of the burn is to remove a fuel hazard.

Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort is made to conduct the burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.

The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
