Canberra’s biggest and best farmers market, the Capital Region Farmers Market, has started welcoming in the first of the season’s festive foods.

“We’re still the best place to tick off the Christmas food list. The silly season is definitely upon us, and all of our Market stallholders are rolling out the best and freshest seasonal produce right now.” said Capital Region Farmers Market Manager, Tamara Arnold.

“Does any other food herald the start of summer and the Christmas season quite like cherries? We’ve got many different varieties now available from our stallholders from Young, Wombat and Hall,” Tamara continued.

Cherry varieties include the popular early season Empress, Alise and Supreme varieties. And Loriendale Orchard from near Hall also has organic cherries available on the last Saturday of November. The cherries are available from now until right through to Christmas, or until sold out.

“Over the coming weeks we’ll have everything needed to make your Christmas celebrations brilliant. From fresh live Christmas trees, to food for entertaining your friends and family in the lead up to Christmas, and of course the food for the big day,” said Tamara.

The Market will be well stocked with fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables, meats including Christmas hams, puddings, cakes, chocolates and many other sweet delights. And of course, for an Aussie Christmas there’s plenty of fresh seafood including fish, oysters and prawns.

“Our Christmas Hampers are also back this year. You can impress the food lovers you know with hampers from The Muesli Bar and Homeleigh Grove featuring a good range of products from the Market including olive oil, preserves, chocolates, nuts, coffee and more.

“And we have two other great Christmas gift ideas this year – our brand new Farmers Market Cook Book and Market Gift Cards in either $50 or $30 values. You can grab the best choice in Christmas food knowing that you’re supporting fresh food with low food miles and our farmers and producers at the same time.” concluded Tamara.

Capital Region Farmers Market gift hampers are available from now until Christmas from participating stallholders. Both the cook book and Market Gift Cards are available for purchase from the Rotary Help Desk at the Market each Saturday until Christmas.

The Capital Region Farmers Market will operate as usual right through until Saturday 20 December. The Market will also take a brief break, resuming trading for 2015 on Saturday 10 January. For more information visit www.capitalregionfarmersmarket.com.au
