Cricket is not what it was, and so of course now is the time we get a Festival of Cricket!

Andrew Barr has announced December will bring us a protracted period of flanneled excitement:

The festival which has been funded for 3 years is great news for local cricket fans and great news for local tourism businesses.

Staged in conjunction with Cricket ACT and Cricket NSW the festival will begin with a Ryobi One-Day Cup and Sheffield Shield match between the RTA SpeedBlitz Blues and the PKF Tasmanian Tigers. Both matches will feature renowned Australian cricketers including David Warner, Phil Hughes, Phil Jacques, George Bailey and Jason Krejza.

Along with these two key domestic fixtures the Festival of Cricket will feature a match between Cricket Australia’s Chairman’s XI and India. This promises to attract plenty of attention as this match will be the only official warm-up match for the Indian touring team before the iconic MCG Boxing Day Test Match.

Where sunburn and alcoholism meet.

The key dates are:

    — Sunday 4 December 2011 at Manuka Oval: Ryobi One-Day Cup – RTA SpeedBlitz Blues v PKF Tasmanian Tigers

    — Tuesday 6 – Friday 9 December 2011 at Manuka Oval: Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield – RTA SpeedBlitz Blues v PKF Tasmanian Tigers

    — Sunday 18 – Wednesday 21 December 2011 at Manuka Oval: Cricket Australia’s Chairman’s XI v India
