skate in the city

Skate in The City, Canberra’s own open air ice rink has been wowing the crowds since it opened just over a week ago. With over 300m2 of ice-skating rink in Garema Place is the place to be seen and the centre of winter frolicking for Canberra in 2011. With up to seven skating sessions a day there’s room for everyone to enjoy the thrill of open air skating.

A licensed café area run by Canberra’s much loved Tosolini’s with warm winter delights and outdoor heating is the perfect place to watch the action or enjoy a romantic drink under the twinkling lights after a skating session.

Every Friday & Saturday night world class skaters from Stars on Ice will perform a variety of themed skate shows and for those wanting to shake off the cold The Urban Ice Collective led by DJ Frank Madrid will run Ice Moves from 10pm till midnight.

There’ll also be special day shows during the school holidays featuring “Cat in the Hat” and “Santa on Ice” plus Demonstration Ice Hockey and Fashion Parades throughout July. In conjunction with 666ABC Canberra Thursday evenings are Northern Hemisphere Nights with influences from Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Finland. Countries with a long tradition of winter skating.

This winter, whether day or night, Skate in The City is the ideal way to bring family and friends together and warm the spirit.

what a magical idea!

I’ve been and I’m going again this week. Funny how cold weather and ice skating go together!
