Like most sensible men in Canberra I’ve always got time to talk to Min Mae. In common with those men, despite never having seen her express any anger, I’ve also picked up a certain air about her suggesting it would be a very, very bad idea indeed to be the one who incurs her wrath.

So when she collared me on Monday night suggesting RiotACT would like to do a piece on her most recent show I was, of course, enthusiastic.

At 2am this morning the photographer (Deye) sent through the photographs. In a disgraceful display of slovenliness (for which I now wholeheartedly apologise) I was asleep. But I’m making up for it now.

So the photographs (slideshow below) are of last week’s “The Human Touch” show by The Radiance Dance Project. The project describes itself thusly:

“Radiance Dance was founded in April 2005 by Morgan Jai-Morincome after a short pilot program teaching belly dance to women with disabilities in 2004. Morgan was fortunate to receive an Innovations grant from Disability ACT making the dream of an integrated dance group a possibility. In 2007 & 2008 Morgan recieved an ACE (Adult & Community Education) grant from the ACT Department of Education & Training to continue to provide inclusive dance experiences for women in the ACT region.”

So have a look at the fantastic images in the slideshow. And if you’re interested be aware that there’s an information session this yesterday afternoon for anyone who’d like to be involved in the program in 2009. It’s on at the Majura Community Centre Hall, Rosevear pl, Dickson from 11.30am-12.30pm.

Clearly me posting the notification on 12 November was insufficient. I’ll try harder in future.

Passive agressively – poptop

Fantastic pics and looks like the dancers had fun. I liked the marionette puppet thing they had going on. I know someone with a degenerative physical disability and one thing she really misses is being able to dance – Radiance Dance looks like a great project in that respect.

It’s amazing how digging through the various ‘lucky dip’ of threads on RA that you can find absolute Gold like this. What a great concept! Min Mae and all involved should be heartily congratulated. I only wish I’d heard of ‘Radiance Dance’ before this. I would have liked to have seen the dance. Great pic’s though!
