And admiring Ben D has sent the above pic in with this note:
I just happened to see and photograph an ACT govt contractor taking
care of the street trees around Canberra.
Credit is due for coming up with an amusing method to avoid physical
exercise and work at the same time

They’re wet. The method works.
method looks fine to me. Might be slightly easier if there was a side facing seat, or he could hose with the door open. But otherwise looks fine.
And what’s the bet that this ingenious worker, who demonstrates excellent initiative, is dragged over the coals for this?

Would be a shame, clearly some smart thinking to make a boring job go more quickly.
Was the tree really that thirsty that he needed to be on the wrong side of the road to do it?
quick, someone complain about how we are not allowed to use mobile phones when we are driving, but hoses are ok.
You cant use your mobile phone when driving because you will be distracted and wont see the water truck on the wrong side of the road!
I have had the tree waterers in my street. To do it properly, they lay the hose in the moat that has been built around the newly planted tree and let in run long enough to give it a good soak. Otherwise, it is as useless as those idiots who used to stand on their front lawn spraying just enough water to get 90% evaporated before it reaches the roots every day in summer.
Baby trees need soaking, not a quick squirt from a pressure hose. If they are doing it for long enough to do a proper watering (at least 5 minutes, preferably 10), why not get out of the truck and save hanging on to it? They are definitely skiving (the soil looks wet) so they can knock off early and go to the pub.
