Tigerair customers will from 11am today pay just $59 for a one way flight between Canberra and Melbourne during the airline’s opening sale to mark its return to the route on December 8.

The first 200 customers to make a booking direct through tigerair.com.au will receive an automatic refund of the base cost of their booked flight to their original form of payment within four weeks of purchase.

The $59 flights will be on sale until midday on Wednesday, August 31, with more than 2000 fares available at the discounted price for travel between December 8 and 21 and January 4 and March 29.
Tigerair will regularly offer fares between Melbourne and Canberra from $69.

The cheapest fares, “Light Fares”, are per person in AUD and include GST. A per person, per flight, booking and service fee of $8.50 applies when booking using credit cards and some debit cards. The cost is $15 when booking by phone or at the airport. The booking and service fee does not apply to payments made using Australian-issued MasterCard debit cards. Fares are non-refundable. Bookings may be changed by paying the fee and any applicable fare difference in accordance with our conditions of carriage, as published on the Tigerair website on the day you request your change. Additional charges apply for optional extras such as checked-in baggage travel insurance and reserved seat selection.
Tigerair Australia has also today announced its schedule for the new services between Melbourne and Canberra with morning and afternoon flight Melbourne departures designed to suit the airline’s core market of budget and leisure travellers.
Tigerair’s Melbourne to Canberra services will depart at 10.30am and arrive at 11.35am on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday, while the same service will depart Melbourne at 5.35pm and arrive at 6.40pm on Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
The new services from Canberra to Melbourne are scheduled for 12.05pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday, arriving into Melbourne at 1.15pm. Tigerair’s Thursday, Friday and Sunday flights from Canberra to Melbourne depart at 7.10pm and arrive at 8.20pm.
Tigerair Australia Head of Communications Vanessa Regan says the airline is confident the new services will prove popular with the airline’s core market of budget and leisure travellers, enabling more people to travel between the two destinations.
As always, customers are encouraged to plan ahead and book early to secure the best value deals with Tigerair Australia. As demand increases closer into the travel date, so does the cost of the fare in general.
Winners of the full refund will be contacted via email notifying of the refund transfer by August 31. The refund process will take up to 4 weeks.

It’s about time we had some competition on this route, once again.

Yep – because nothing went wrong last time Tiger got into the cost-cutting caper.
