Andrew Barr is celebrating a big bump in tourism numbers:
A rise in the number of Australians coming to the ACT to visit friends and relatives and to do business has contributed to an 8.6 per cent annual increase in the number of people staying overnight in Canberra during 2012.
This compares with a 3.6 per cent increase in domestic overnight visitation nationally over the same period.
Tourism Research Australia’s National Visitor Survey (NVS), issued today, shows there were 1.96 million domestic overnight visitors in the ACT for the year ending December 2012, up from 1.8 million the previous year.
The total domestic overnight visitor spend in the ACT for the year ending December 2012 was $1.052 billion, an increase of $9 million on the previous year.
