Trash Pack Time

So as yet another Trash Pack sits waiting for a collection now 5 weeks overdue I’m asking Rioters for their nominations for a reliable and reasonably priced Trash Pack service in the Tuggeranong area.

The clowns we currently use, “Mick’s Trash Packs”, used to be good but the last year has seen lousy service and they’re currently 5 weeks late so it’s time to change.

Any suggestions?

Rang Cut Price up a week after a missed pickup, they said the would pick up tomorrow. They never did. Waited another week, still no show. Rang them and said come pick up my bail as I am having to start to make trips to the tip. They picked up the bale and then had the nerve to charge me for a “Extra pickup’. I asked if my 4-weekly timetable would now be reset based on today’s date, they said no – even though it was their fault they did not pick up my bale in the first place. I’m having trouble finding a reliable service – they just don’t care. I’m trying Brindabella Waste Co next – they are only $1 more than Cut Price (stay away from them)

I’ve used Cut Price for some years and haven’t had any of these problems, I’ve found them reliable. Have been advised this week tho that their price is going up to $25 per month, does anyone know of a cheaper service?

I’d put a 2nd vote in for Brindabella Waste – have been very happy with them, only pickup (and charge) if the bag is more than half full – and yes happy to take extra rubbish as well.

Re AAA Tidy Bags

My neighbour and I had shared the AAA Tidy bag for the last 3 years and was never very happy with the service. My neighbour moved out 2 months ago and despite leaving countless messages on AAA messgage bank our calls were never returned, the latest being just last week. Have tried again this morning and their phone number has been disconnected.

We now have a bin that has not been emptied for over 3 months now and we ourselves are to vacate our rented property in 6 weeks time. I am sympathetic to their loss but were does this leave us? After googling AAA tidy bags have found that they defrauded Centrelink of $73,000. Not an ethical business at all!

we have gone down to powells stock feed, bought a wool bale bag, filled it up with garden waste, chucked it in the boot, and took it to the tip. We are reliable, and I never get complaints about how full it is. Cost of the bag, $11.75. Cost to dump our rubbish, nada. nix. nil. green waste can be dropped off at the different sites around canberra – (as long as the waste meets defined criteria) for free. here is the link with the info of where and what green waste is accepted: http://www.tams.act.gov.au/live/Recycling_and_Waste/Recycling_Options_in_the_ACT/greenwaste

May not make any difference to anyone but FTR my mum went with ‘Cut Price Trash Packs’ as I noticed the other day on the bag, not ‘ACT Trash Packs’ as I had stated. Has had no problems with them.

Yard tidy was $28 (monthly) with non scheduled pick ups $36.
You had to notify them if you didn’t require a pick up other wise it was $5.

Yeah, man.

Matt who looks after the Ginninderra area of Tom’s Trash Paks is good value. The previous operators for the area were a bit ordinary, but Matt has met all my expectations.

I pay $17 a collection with Mick’s. Well I did, but I hadn’t had it emptied in ages (my fault) and he has been late to pick it up (maybe same problem as OP) since my clean up so I don’t know if he went up in that time.

Is that for a monthly collection ? Sounds reasonable if it is reliable.

28 days was his schedule (I’m having small doubts and can’t find the last envelope so don’t quote me otherwise monthly). Yep, he was reliable all the years I used him, his little envelope was always dated and told you the exact date he would return for collection and if he was a bit late I never noticed anyhow. Even if he didn’t empty, envelopes were left alerting you to next month.

Not sure what happened this time, hope everything is ok. But I have a feeling my situation is because I had it emptied at a different time and it wasn’t full enough on his normal schedule through here and we’re just hangin’ now because it’s full.

Except my personal vehicle is not how I derive my income and provide customer service.

Swine Flu and mechanical problems aren’t just the reason and no it doesn’t just relate to the Trash Pack Industry but can you tell me that your car has never broken down or do you plan for it to break down on a certain day so it is not an unforeseen circumstance, we don’t plan for these things to happen and if we could plan for these things then life would be sweet and your rubbish would be picked up on time.

What is a reasonable price for Trash Pack collection ?

Out of those of you who have already posted, what are you paying ?

Hells_Bells749:35 am 17 Aug 09

Sorry to add on, but I think my mum went with ACT Trash packs now (number above) and was pleased.

Hells_Bells749:11 am 17 Aug 09

I’ve used Mick’s since I dunno 1995, he is wonderful for me, lets me get to owing for 3 empties and then just leaves it till I’m ready to pay (never pesters me). If it is under half he would never empty it and if you can grab him he does a wonderful yard cleanup servce very reasonably priced. But my mum used him for years too and recently got sick of never being able to reach him for extra empties or yard work (although recently I had no problems).

I can say that Tom’s has been coming in my street the whole time I’ve lived here and my neighbours seem happy and never changed.

It’s a terribly busy job that is a lot on the road, I think they do a great service all things considered.

Good luck with finding the perfect Trashie!

So swine flu, mechanical failures and deliquent customers only exist in the trashpack industry?

“Also what is the big deal, it is just a bag of rubbish”

Its just that thing you are paid to collect, but heaven forbid you should do your job.

“The bigger picture is over 50% of customers DO NOT pay their bill, and yet we still pick up the bags(when were not running behind).”

Must be a spectacular business model you have!

And, FYI, we use Tom’s Trash Packs and never had a problem in the last 5 years

I work for a Trash Pack Company and this is to all of you who is slagging off ANY Trash Pack Company. I am not trying to make excuses but you should take into consideration Swine Flu as I know it went through this company and what is the point of putting all of our customers at risk for the sake of rubbish. Also mechanical problems with the trucks as this is an unforeseen circumstance. The bigger picture is over 50% of customers DO NOT pay their bill, and yet we still pick up the bags(when were not running behind). Also what is the big deal, it is just a bag of rubbish. WE KNOW WHO ALL OUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS ARE!!! Unless you are a Pom why are you whinging!!!

I’ve used Brindabella Waste for the last couple of years – their system work pretty well for me as you only pay when its picked up. I’m Northside but I’m pretty sure they do Southside too.

They guy who runs it is friendly and has always been happy to take extra stuff when I have it.

We’ve used Yard Tidy for a while until we bought a trailer. We were put onto them by our neighbour who still uses them.
Never had a problem but you need to notify them if you don’t need a pick up otherwise its $5.
My wife tells me that when we had no pick ups after 3 months, they still charged for a month which I suppose is not that unreasonable as we’re holding their property.

I love my trailer.

Well I feel cheated, threepaws. A good rant is a wonderful thing.

Why are there so many shonks in rubbish?

I just wrote a comment about Mick’s Trash Paks that would have been in the running for Flame of the Week.

I felt cleansed and deleted it.

Stay away from them.

I used Toms track paks for a couple of years and got sick of there rude and lack of service I rang around a few different trash pack companys and found no one was interested in picking up any new work I then came across Yard Tidy and have been with them for years now the owner is such a nice guy and nothing is to much effort for them

I cannot recommend them enough

Don’t try AAA. Unfortunately the principal owner/driver is now deceased and they are 2+ months behind.

Since the owner was only accidentally killed on 27th June, I don’t see how they could be 2+ months behind.

Understandably, there were some delays as his poor wife had to employ and train drivers, not to mention bury him.

And if your pack is empty you can just ring before the pickup date and ask them not to pick it up.

But don’t let all of that stop you from trying to steer potential customers away.

Apologise profusely if my comments were construed as inconsiderate. I put up an opinion based on personal experience.

They were always late for us. The reason given was initially that as a rural run it was hard to keep drivers and they kept having to retrain staff. Then we were told our run was outsourced and there will be further delays while that was being sorted out. Now they are 2 months plus late and given the cicumstances not likely to be back on track for a while.

ACT Trash Packs 6258 0122. I have used them for years and never had a problem. I think it is a small husband and wife company.

I may be wrong, but I think Tom’s Trash Packs are franchised out – so the reliability of service rests with the individual franchisee, rather than the brand per se.

What about Tom’s trash packs? No longer owned by Tom – but providing a reliable service nonetheless…..

So the bottom line is, all these providers are rubbish…………..

can be somewhat exciting to deal with: a colleague was abused when she called them about having some boxes removed! They’re still listed in the local business guide, but don’t seem to be in the yellow pages any more.

Agree re AAA, they’ve also started charging us for emptying our empty bag. They used to be good though.

Hah! and if it is “overfull”, they refuse to take it, leave a second pack and charge you for both when you have emptied half into the new pack. we have started looking for a new provider as well.
