As it happens RiotACT is the Digital Media Partner of the Canberra & Capital Region Truffle Festival.

So it’s with great pleasure we let you know it’s kicking off tomorrow night!

Truffle hunts, truffle-inspired menus and truffle cooking classes are just some of the experiences on offer as part of the 2012 Canberra and Capital Region Truffle Festival, which launches on the Winter Solstice, Thursday 21 June 2012, and continues throughout July.

More than 25 of the region’s leading restaurants, wineries, cafes, food markets and truffieres are getting ready to showcase the area’s highly prized quality French Black Truffles, with the Winter Solstice marking the start of the truffle season in one of Australia’s key truffle growing areas.

The festival will include activities such as the popular truffle hunts, cooking classes and demonstrations, truffle inspired menus and tasting sessions, as well as educational sessions about this mysterious ingredient, sometimes referred to as the ‘diamond of the kitchen’.

Festival highlights include:

— The festival launch dinner at Dieci E Mezzo (Thursday 21 June);

— A cooking demonstration at the Capital Region Farmers Market (Saturday 23 June);

— Truffle hunts at a range of truffle farms in the region (throughout festival);

— Truffle degustation menu at Pulp Kitchen (Mondays during July);

— Truffle inspired goodies at Dream Cuisine and Silo Bakery (throughout festival);

— A truffle master-class for the food and catering industry with For Chefs;

— Cooking classes at 3seeds (throughout festival), Le Très Bon and Cooking Coordinates; and

— Demonstrations and tastings at the Fyshwick Fresh Food Markets on Sunday mornings.

There’s a handy fact sheet and more information on their website.

Sorry to dig this up again, but putting scrotums to one side, the back truffle looks like a face. Even a troll face. Or a shrunken head. They all seem quite different. Truffles, that is.

How do you know what freeze dried scrotums taste like?

More concerning is the one at the front seems to have three testicles.

They must get them from Lucas Heights. Or Maralinga.

Is it just me, or do those things look like freeze-dried scrotums? I hope they taste a LOT better than they look …

How do you know what freeze dried scrotums taste like?

I’m sure we can do something 🙂

You’re so much nicer than JB. And better looking too.

Sounds like fun events. I’ve always wondered what truffles taste like so I’ll be there.

I’m sure RA can afford those that are best eaten with tea or coffee.

I meant in RA’s role as Digital Media Partner of the Truffle Festival, not that they rush out and buy them or find them themselves. Digital dogs, not diggity.

I once ordered carbonara with truffle on top.
According to my dining friends the expression on my face was priceless, when it arrived at our table with chocolate on top of the pasta.
