Tuggeranong Masters Swimmers are fired up and ready to go for the new year!!!

First training session is this SUNDAY 6th Jan at Tuggeranong pool and Endurance 1000 also starts this Saturday at 10.30 am. So come along and start the New Year with a good hit out swim!

## Regular lake swims are planned – Wednesdays at 6pm at New Acton course.

WE have a big year ahead of us with lots of targeted events early in the year.

The coaches have planned the swim sessions for the first few months of the year with the build up being towards the Nationals in April in Sydney. Even if you don’t compete it is good to know what the sessions are aimed at and will be beneficial to all. If you are thinking about taking the step to competition why not aim for the National Masters in Sydney?? It is not as scary as it sounds – ALL ABILITIES AND AGES COMPETE – it is about fun, friendship and fitness. It is always good to have as goal when swimming as incentive to train. Talk to one of the coaches if you are thinking about competing. Come and join the fun!

January is focusing on conditioning – working on drills and building fitness and endurance. # great for those doing open water swims

February and March we will be stepping up the pace and doing high intensity workouts to get our speed up for sprinting.

April we will be doing quality sessions aimed at being at our peak for the Nationals!

Now if you think this sounds a bit intense if you are just a social swimmer – don’t worry – the sessions will be the same as normal – we are just informing you of our cyclic planning.

We would like you to be at the pool at least 10 minutes before start time to stretch and so the coach can let you know what’s happening in the session. Stretching is really important as you get older to help prevent injury- we haven’t time in the session – so needs to be done before.

One more thing – DRILLS. You may wonder sometimes why we do drills. But it is the way you will improve your swimming whether you are a super swimmer or just new to the sport. It makes you focus on parts of your stroke which will transfer across to your swimming style. So watch out for more drills this year! We will also be running stroke workshops during the year so look out for them.

Anyway, it’s going to be a great year!!!

See you at the pool
