Twice the Labor, one low low price

Psephologist, Flacco look-alike and man-about-town Antony Green has an interesting post up: Labor running Two Tickets for ACT Election. It seems voters in Ginninderra and Brindabella will get twice the Labor for their money, with two columns of Labor candidates appearing on the ballot this October. I guess it really is a Labor town.

Antony’s article speculates on what the implications of this might be, and has a few other observations on the coming election.

Smacks of a party that is somewhat worried coming up to the election.
Many would say it should be.
This little duck would be quite happy to see a return to minority government.

I have been wondering why the ALP are running 6 candidates in a 5 seat electorate. I think the answer given by the ACT Secretary was something about a ‘diverse ticket’ but you’d think that preference leakage would undermine any benefit from ‘diversity’. I should ask some labor mates.

More interesting in that article was the admission that there are more than 420 variations of the ballot paper in Molonglo due to Robson Rotation. That has to be a bit of a headache for the counters and scrutineers.
