Today with our Unearthed Review hat on we bring you the the girlie keyboard sound of Boko.

There are over 700 Canberra bands with tracks on the TripleJUnearthed website. In 2011 we’re going to explore them. (Previous reviews are available)

Today’s random selection is Boko who describe themselves thusly:

I have a degree in piano, but somehow these days writing my own music is much more interesting than playing other people’s. A song is a good chance to explore any kind of unresolved territory. Luckily I married a professional musician who helps out with the production area… but neither of us are signed!

Years ago I sang in Canberra rock band ‘Adonais’, winners of the 1999 Canberra leg of the National Campus Band Competition.

There are hits and misses on the unearthed site but Boko is definitely a hit.

Dreamy, beautiful vocals and soulful piano are a great combination. If you like the Kate Bush template this will work for you too.

The only niggle is the way the drums come in intermittently making me think there’s music launching from another window. Seriously irritating and cost them a star.

Three and a half stars.
