Cat Cat

Today Unearthed Review is blissed out with Cat Cat.

There are over 700 Canberra bands with tracks on the TripleJUnearthed website. In 2011 we’re going to explore them. (Previous reviews are available)

Today’s random selection is Cat Cat who want you to know this about them:

Cat Cat formed mid 2008 and are Conor, Kieran and Warwick, with various other members coming and going leaving a trail of awesomeness.

This combination of members and style allows the band to stay on a steady road of up beat, jangling, bright and crisp guitars and drums. They’re sound has been described as a ‘a band from the past who found a massive time machine and went back to the future. Sounds old, feels new, kind of music.’

They have released an EP ‘DIG MOUNTAINS’ which is available free via http://www.birdslovefighting.com

In the words of TripleJ’s Steph Hughes: “Spiky lo fi pop”.

Certainly having The Chills in their “sounds like” is no joke.

On each of the songs here a riff opens up, and maintains a metronome like regularity through the song, and later a droning vocal overlays the riff, and then you’re done.

If you’re looking to have an emotional wallow on a bleak day this is just the ticket.

Niceness is not – and ought not be – a pertinent criterion when it is the music itself being judged. Fair?

Can’t hurt to mention though!

All we care about is if the tv is going to be on when they throw it out of their hotel window.

Genuinely nice guys as well, if anyone really cares about that.
