“Dig deeper into the Unearthed Mines Barcham!”

“Sure thing boss.”

Today we have the Fig Newlies.

Here’s what they have to say about themselves:

We wear our hair like Stephen Pastel.

FULL DISCLOSURE: Stephen Pastel has messy hair.

Here’s what I have to say about them:

Remember in the early 2000’s you bought that soundtrack to some movie that was largely forgettable except for the fact it had awesome music? Remember listening to that soundtrack and coming across that track that you couldn’t remember at all from the movie, and despite it not really fitting in with the other songs on the album you still thought was pretty damn cool? Then you re-watched the movie and discovered the song was played for like 3 seconds when they were in some dude’s apartment in the second act and you figured the band is probably mates with the guy who put the soundtrack together?

Fig Newlies sound a lot like that band, and I quite like them. The sweet vocals feel like they should be clashing with the rattling garage-ish sound of the instruments, but everything blends together quite well. So well it look me a while to realise that it probably shouldn’t.

Hit up See You Again first. It’s the stronger of the two tracks and see if it works for you. Both tracks are very easy listening, stick them on in the background and get back to whatever it is that you’re doing. Enjoy.

Four stars.
