Simon Corbell has announced that Uriarra Village is being determined under the Public Place Names Act.

“While the decision to formalise the name of the „Uriarra Village? will only affect a small number of Canberrans, it is an important change that gives certainty about postal, GPS, and safety issues for these residents,” Mr Corbell said.

“This issue has been under consideration for some time and I am happy to be able to table this report which seeks to formalise the suburb for these important community members. Previously residents of Uriarra Village were formally designated as living in the district of Coree.

“Uriarra Village will now be classified as a suburb within the District of Coree, which is a great outcome for the residents of this village.”

Mr Corbell said the main concern of safety for residents in the Uriarra Village was having an assigned address for the residents that could be easily identified and located by emergency service personnel.

Excellent! Can we have the same treatment for Manuka, Lanyon, Kippax, Erindale, and all those other ethereal Canberra locations which locals reference as suburbs but of course are venerated shopping arcades. A real bugger for new comers…
