The Canberra Times is reporting that Canberra legal luminary Ian Nicol fell victim to the Kings Highway on Boxing Day and his wife Meredith is in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Having known Ian both personally and professionally since my childhood I’m finding it hard to believe that the seemingly irresistible force has been snuffed out.

Noel Towell’s done an excellent job with the story and I recommend it to you all.

My condolences and prayers are with Alistair, Malcolm, Robbie and Meredith in this tragic time.

I also knew Ian from childhood – my father and he were good friends, and Ian was just one year younger than my father was when he passed away 10 years ago. He will be greatly missed. I can’t understand the unfairness of life…

I and my ex-colleagues had some contact with Ian through ACT Government. He was a jovial and humorous guy and mentor. Will remember his laugh and bow-ties. He will be missed greatly. Best wishes to family.

That’s just awful. May his wife recover quickly.

I opened my best bottle of red last night in his memory and recalled that without his support at some crucial times there probably wouldn’t be a RiotACT today.

Sounds like a top bloke. My condolences likewise to family and friends.
