Vikings kicked out....again.

NSW Rugby, not content with having severed ACT Rugby development at schoolboy level (having dumped ACT Schools from the Waratah Shield comp) have now gone one further & once again booted the Vikings from the Sydney rugby comp after only two seasons back in.

Keep going gentleman…perhaps one day your policy of cutting off ACT Rugby at it’s development stages will blossom into you actually being able to win something of your own. Nah….not likely. You f’ing bastards.

What’s interesting is the blazers of sydney club rugby had hoped to expand their precious competition (and with it their clubs) to be the de facto national comp.

They now appear to have abandoned that dream.

Could it be their opposition to the sorely needed national comp will now subside?

You are right. We beat NSW before Super 12 or Vikings….& no matter what they do, we’re still the No.1 Rugby region in the country…one of the best in the world even.

I’m still angry about it though, that’s all.

No argument about the Canberra bashing. 20 years ago we were beneath them, now they’re merely threatened by us. The reality is that it will never stop. Do we continue going cap in hand, begging to play in their wonderous comp, or do we become masters of our own fate?

Do we try and address the exectation of our graduating school boys that if they don’t play in the Sydney comp then their careers are doomed? Our local comp may never be up to the Sydney comp standard, but shouldn’t we try to make it the best we can? Can we not make it an avenue into the APC?

I’m tired of the whims of Sydney and Brissie determining where we play our highest provincial rugby. We need to act.

The simple fact is that we don’t have the player base to run a comp at the level of Sydney…or even Brisbane. Either way you look at it, this is a kick in the pants for ACT Rugby…& is basically Canberra bashing.

Why did they not boot out one of their several underperforming, broke clubs? Why kick out a cashed up & succesful team? ‘Cause they’re from Canberra…that’s why.

I was initially angered by this news and cursing those NSW pricks.

Having calmed down a little the inevitability of this move has hit me and got me thinking about the way ahead for ACT Rugby.

What’s inevitable is that with the advent and growth of the Australian Provicial Comp (APC)that we have to address how the ACT will be represented in the APC in years to come.

I’m not so interested in the “series of invitationals’ the Brumbies CEO (outgoing) Clarke has mooted. I’d rather see the money invested in involving Brumbies players, Brumbies Academy players in the local competition and work to building the stardard of that competition. We’d have to pay players enough to stop them being lured to Sydney.

The ACT APC team shouldn’t be Brumby owned, but ACTRU owned and be the major representative outlet for homegrown players. An excellent proving groung and selection system for the Brumbies.

We’re not wanted by Brissie of Sydney – that’s obvious now. Stuff ’em, do it on our own.

What’s the excuse this time around; the ACT boys play too rough?
