The weather forecast for Sunday is looking sunny, and the Vikings are in good form to catch some Rays. Although the dance off planned for last night between Frankie Twinkletoes Fainifo and Jules Astaire Salvi didn’t go ahead as Salvi bumped his knee during a mid week training session.

So dance along to Manuka Oval at 2:30 on Sunday, to see the mightly Canberra Vikings take on the mediocre Central Coast Rays. You might get to see some of the players dancing around the middle of the field for the half time entertainment.

If rugby is the game they play in heaven, this is the game the spectators would watch in purgatory. A Vikings team which thought turning up would be enough, some careless play, some really bad options and they were relying on luck and inspiration in the last five minutes. It didn’t happen, which is hardly surprising, and they lost 17-13.

They missed Jone Tawake terribly. The big man’s bowling ball of death barges would have created some space and momentum. Instead they spent a lot of time running sideways.

Anxiety and depression would be the best description of the last twenty minutes. Someone needs medication, and it might be the crowd trying to cure their nightmares.

Barney – I do, and so do a few thousand others. This competition is important for Australian Rugby and it has shown that there are some wonderful players around who have not had as much sunlight as they should have had. Next week’s game in Parramatta against the West Sydney Rams will, for example, show Christian Lealiifano againt Kurtley Beale, the darling of the SMH. It has given a few who were unlucky not to be at the RWC the chance to keep in shape after the Wallabies left in case (as happened with Mark Gerrard) there are injuries over there. It has allowed talented players from the local competitions to show what they can do against some serious talent. It is probably helping to work out some of the positions that will be vacated when people such as Gregan, Larkham and Latham retire and the horror that the Wallaby front row can be becomes more clear.

WGAF – Translation (WHO GIVES A ….) :S 😉
“Canberra Vikings”, playing at Manuka and Canberra Stadium. Interesting, very interesting.

Rams got done by Fleet. Vikings should top the table after this game,,,let’s hope so.
