In signs the Liberals are getting much more active in the Hanson era new member Andrew Wall has started asking questions about Canberra’s shameful footpaths:
A motion was moved in the Assembly late yesterday afternoon that noted the
significant number of footpaths and shared paths in disrepair across the ACT, and the failure of the government to maintain and fix these paths. The motion called on the government to routinely publish a schedule of footpaths that are identified for repair.
“I am pleased to see the Minister has acknowledged that the lack of information available to residents in the suburbs about footpath maintenance,” Mr Wall said today.
“As a result of my actions, improvements will be made to the information that is currently available to the public.
“While this move will not see every footpath in need of repair fixed, I am pleased to see a more transparent approach to the issue.
Maybe they can just chip seal the footpaths like they do the roads. That always seems to work really well.
I’d hate to be in a wheelchair in this city – it would suck big time.

Haha, funny. You won’t see too many wheelchairs trying to negotiate London’s patchwork sidewalks.
Why stop at footpaths. The ACT Government has a priority list of all works including roadworks. Why not make the whole list public.

Yes ha ha funny but we are not in London!!
The pecking order that works are progressed is not understandable. Locally we have had the turning lanes into a local street resealed with chipseal. There was no apparent reason for this, the road was fine. However, 15 metres away is a pothole that opens up every time it rains. Nope, Govco didn’t see that one. The pothole has been there for about 8 years. They fill it, it rains, opens up, causes tire and suspension damage, and some time later it is re-filled.
Despite advising Govco of a suspension damaging trench across the intersection of Ipswich and Wiluna Streets in Fyshwick, nothing has been done. This trench is bloody dangerous, and certainly damaging suspensions on vehicles. Chipseal in the ‘burbs is obviously cheaper. And don’t start me on Canberra Ave, particularly around Telopea Park.

Especially if there is a wall on the footpath.
