‘Me & Mrs Jones we got a thing going on…’

One thing that is essential for me in any venue is a vibe. I can walk into a place that is aesthetically on the money, but if it lacks a vibe, I’m out. Me & Mrs Jones seems to have found that sweet spot where raw and earthy meets fresh & contemporary. There’s a push and pull of opposing elements that works. Raw bricks, exposed beams, industrial light fittings and heavy wooden floors push up against modern black, polished white, shiny glass, and lots of light.

Walking in we are welcomed by a fresh faced waitress who greets us with a sunny smile and a couple of table options – nice. While we are getting comfortable we are promptly provided menu’s, water and, at our request breakfast recommendations. When I ask for menu recommendations I don’t love the response ‘everything is good’ this says to me ‘I don’t know’ or ‘I don’t care’ so I am super happy when our waitress asks what we are in the mood for and, because we are in the mood for sharing, quickly suggests the Smashing Persian and the Blueberry Pancakes. We are then left to mull over the menu while our coffee orders are placed, we also decide to try the green smoothie.

On the menu is a good mix of the usual suspects – Eggs however you like and enough sides to personalise your plate to your taste, as well as some more creative options like the Truffled Mushroom Omelette or Breakfast Quesadilla. Just as we are deciding to go with what our waitress has recommended, she’s back armed with hot coffees and green smoothie.

My smooth, strong coffee gets me excited for the cake cabinet, which has been beckoning me since I walked in. I take this moment to quickly dash over to really soak in the sticky, sugary treats teasing me from behind the glass, torture! As I am mentally eating everything in the cabinet Simon, the manager, greets me and informs me that everything is made in-house besides one or two items. Stop it! Cake cabinet we will meet again, but right now I need to focus on breakfast.

Cut to the Smashing Persian – two poached eggs on top of avocado and Persian fetta smashed into 2 pieces of delicious organic linseed toast with a sprinkling of pepitas and a couple of wedges of lemon for good measure. We quickly divvy up the toast, I take the pepitas and lemon, and my friend takes the eggs, sorted.

On to the pancakes – In hindsight we should have ordered the pancakes to follow the smash because that neat stack of blueberry pancakes was topped with ice-cream. Lucky we were hungry and got to it in time. The highlight for me with these tasty little morsels was the popping candy sprinkled cheekily over the ice-cream. My first mouthful was so fun, I wasn’t expecting it, the pops were met with excited giggles and definitely made for an excellent surprise and a fun ending to a great overall experience.

Nearly forgot to mention the green smoothie, which was a meal in itself. I could only fit a couple of sips in but to be honest this is probably more what breakfast looks like for me on a daily basis. I would definitely grab one of these on the fly for some good quality, convenient energy.

Thanks Me & Mrs Jones, I can now confidently say ‘we got a thing going on’ boom boom.
