The Canberra Environment Centre is running the second of its gardening basics workshops on Tuesday 17 March. The topic? Soil.

Last Tuesday, Keith Colls from Canberra City Farm invited participants of ‘organic pest control’ to learn different ways to identify pests and diseases, how best to treat common ailments as well as a good background on the idea of organic gardening. There was even a pest-spotting tour of the Canberra Environment Centre/ANU Sustainability Learning Community Garden.

This Tuesday, Keith will be giving an introduction to soil – why it’s important, how to test, monitor and maintain it and how it is best prepared before planting. This workshop seems to be great for beginners with preparing soil as the basis of a new garden. Advanced gardeners can still come along to learn a thing or two, and to have Keith evaluate your soil so bring a sample!

$20 per person. Bookings online here.

When: Tuesday 17 March
Time: 6pm to 8pm
Where: Canberra Environment Centre
