What is the Army Reserve like these days?

I’d like to hear from current members of Army Reserve units in the Canberra region. I’d like to know what to expect at Kapooka and follow on training as well as its duration. Also what parade nights and regular training / weekends / exercises are like and how frequent they are.

Cheers

… 13 19 01… the Army – the edge… try that number and they will be able to tell you

The attendance requirements use to be a one night a week, a weekend a month and two weeks full time (exercises) each year, but that was about 10 years ago, don’t know what the requirements are these days. Of course you could always apply for leave if you were unable to attend a parade night or weekend, I can only assume that is still the case.

Back in the good ol’ days, recruit training was two weeks and IET was another two weeks. I think recruit training is now 6 weeks full time?

last time I checked reservists had to volunteer to go overseas.

reserve infantry is generally stupid but full of egos

and in reply to thumper I went nowhere while in RAInf but got overseas while in the corps of transport.

if I was going to go Army reserve around here I would look at the Light Cav guys in Goulburn

I served for quite a number of years. Obviously you didn’t because all you can do is sprout ridiculous and uninformed ideology.

Which OS two-way shooting ranges did you serve in, exactly?

I assume the irony of your comment is lost on you. But it gave me a chuckle.

I’m pretty sure they can still order you to your death in a foreign country for an imagined cause should they choose. Never having been in service, happy to be corrected on that.

You don’t have to go… you could go and spend 20 years in Ingleburn if you wanted.

Full of women, who wear uniforms and like to be top dog. 🙂
