Where did Pialligo Estate go?

Just a quickie – can someone please tell me what happened to the fabulous Pialligo Estate Winery? It has been closed for months, and there is nothing on its web site to indicate when it will re-open – just that it is undergoing refurbishment.

As a winery, and as a cafe, it was such a success story – and what a location!

Would love to know what has happened there, and what will happen there next, and when?

I dont think theyre be opening any time soon from the massive earthworks on site. Theyve cleared a site bigger than any structure at the airport. Have a look at the ariel photographs

You have to accept the terms and conditions and maybe click the link again.

At the top you can switch the view between November 2010 and May 2011. The difference is prettey marked.

Does anyone know how they are going with the renovations? I’m looking for a wedding venue for January or February next year and am hoping to contact the new owners

Yes it will reopen. The new owners, last time we spoke were hopeful to reopen in September, but that may be more likely to be December.
Some of the Vines will remain, but I am not certain as to if they will make wine from them or not.
As i hear it the Cafe will reopen, bigger and better than ever.
The original owners have sold, and moved on. I hear they are enjoying their retirement, and are keen to see the new Pialligo Estate as much as we are!

Property development. In an “interesting” and mysterious planning decision, the owners have been allowed to build some kind of commercial residential development. Totally out of keeping with the zoning of the area, and it alienates some of the best agricultural land in the ACT (this property was a huge market garden for decades, providing food), but there you go. Some kind of hotel/apartments thing, according to the rumours.

And the previous owners, who started the winery, have they sold it and moved on? Will it re-open as a winery?
