The Australian Institute of Sport has announced the’ve got a spot of Pertussis in the women’s water polo team:

he Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) has confirmed two members of the women’s water polo team and one coach, have been diagnosed with Pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough.

We are working closely with medical professionals as well as ACT Health to ensure that every precaution is taken to prevent the spread of this infection. The water polo team is in camp at the AIS and has been placed in isolation to mitigate the risk of infection for athletes, staff and the public. All members and officials of the team have been tested.

Swimming Australia informs us that the 2012 Swimming Australia Grand Prix has now been cancelled as a result which will disappoint a great many people.

Swimming Australia has today cancelled the relay camp and 2012 Grand Prix scheduled for the AIS in Canberra this weekend, as a precaution to ensure athletes stay healthy and have the best possible preparation for London.

Following the announcement from the AIS today of a case of whooping cough from two of their visiting athletes, the decision was made to limit any risk of infection, mild or otherwise.

Swimming Australia Head Coach Leigh Nugent said the decision to cancel the camp is purely a precaution.

“We have spoken with the AIS and, whilst we are comfortable with the procedures they have put in place, we have decided to take this precaution.”

LSWCHP and Gungahlin Al you are factually incorrect.

There is a different strain of whooping cough (pertussis) doing its rounds, three people I know all had their three vaccinations in addition to their booster and it has not made an ounce of difference. According to an interstate government health site, some medical practitioners are believing that one of the Pertussis strains have broken through fully vaccinated individuals who are suffering the same symptoms as unvaccinated people some of whom are currently in TCH.

A few family members (extended) have pneumonia from whooping cough – a mixture of ages and fully vaccinated against Pertussis, however they are recovering well after I had advised them to consume raw garlic daily (preferably with the skin left on in order for the allincin to activate after dicing), use a vaporizer (electric) to steam lungs and a tablespoon of honey daily. The antibiotics had not worked during the first week, the raw garlic was the winner!

I can understand why people view blaming un-vaccinated people, however not all strains of flu (including Pertussis) are the same.

Whooping cough is a bacterial infection, hence the anti-biotics. Influenza is a virus, where antibiotic will not effect them. Completely different diseases, and therefore completely different treatments. Different vaccinations, produced using defferent methods as well. The ONLY thing Whooping Cough and Flu have in common is they will both create an immune response (and making you feel sick).

My husband caught Whooping cough when I was 8 months pregnant. At the time we didn’t realise that adults needed boosters. We were very lucky that the GP picked up what it was very early, as it gave the antibiotics a chance to work before the baby was born and that I didn’t catch it. We have both since has our boosters, and would encourage everone else to do the same. It was very scary at the time.

I see – raw garlic is more effective at treating a virus than antibiotics are?

The anti-vaccination fruitloops truly are a bottomless pit of stupid.

It’s a nasty one, I didn’t realise that childhood immunisation didn’t work now either, we had a scare at work last winter. Must get a needle… getting it as a grownup is no joke and you can be coughing for literally months. Pertussis is quite infectious too.

Athletes in serious training get every bug going, their immune systems are in the toilet when they’re revving up for a big meet or some other goal. It’s a real problem.

We’ve had cases reported where I work as well. I wonder if this is the result of the work of the dimwitted anti-vaccination loonies.

Yeah, but don’t you know that vaccination is the future American New World Order’s way of sedating the population?

Don’t be fooled, man – they’re out to get us all………..just look up into the sky for the answer in the chemtrails…….

It absolutely is. Vaccines will only work if there is “herd immunity”. And adults need to have boosters – did people realise that? I didn’t until just recently.
