I went to the Mitchell dump today to get rid of some old timber and household waste and a lot of old chemicals from my grandfathers shed. The weigh bridge operator said take it to the transfer station.

Does anyone pick up all of these chemicals? Where does all this rubbish go to be sorted out ? do the workers sort through it at the bottom after they push it all down the chute?

What happens to all the cans with CFC gas in them and all the other no good matter. I hope it doesn’t go to landfill????

I’ll think you will find its a compactor set up and it packs the rubbish into the bins on rails under the compactor
I’ve seen the truck that picks up the bins from Mitchell and takes them to Mugga not sure if they separate them there or just dump them into land fill.

TAMS have some guidance on their website as to how best to dispose of certain things at Tips on Recycling

and specifically for chemicals here
