I’ve noticed a considerable difference driving to work in the mornings on Fridays. I drive (or cycle) straight down Northbourne to get to Deakin. After mentioning it this morning to a colleagues at work (who live all over Canberra) they all concurred.

What’s up with that, RiotActors?

people get sick and take offs on Fridays :p Those who don’t, leave early from work ! :p

Isn’t it obvious? Part-timers take Friday off, because they want their day off next to the weekend, and they don’t want to lose out on public holidays by taking Mondays off.

Parliament doesn’t sit on Fridays

On Fridays I use our invisible car

Depends what you do as a job, if you have to split your time between two cities than you can fit your work into 4 days (or if you live in one but are posted to another). The extra day is usually spent travelling or recovering.

The surprising thing is that its significant and noticeable on the roads of Canberra. Clearly I’m in the wrong job!

Because a lot of people go to the coast, sydney and Melbourne on Thursday. The Thursday arvo traffic on the barton, Kings and Hume clearly illustrates this. Simple as that my friend.

I’m sure Google knows, especially as my phone gives me an estimated travel time to work each day.

Yeah. More people take off Fridays to get a long weekend. Anyone that works 4 days or 4 and a half days will take Friday off/half off.
People also go out for drinks after work on Fridays so don’t drive.

People with part time roles often take the Friday off. People take Friday off if they’re going away for the weekend. Uni students try to avoid having a class on Fridays. Parliament never sits on a Friday. Other people chuck a sickie on Friday.

I agree, Fridays generally has less traffic. not quite school holiday proportions but getting close to it. I can think of 2 things. More people leave earlier to get to work, so they can leave early on a Friday and more people also take Fridays off work as well.
