The ABC brings word that Monday is the deadline for Liberal party nominations to run in this year’s federal election.
Which means Zed Seselja’s Hamlet act is drawing to a close.
Will he run at the lacklustre Gai Brodtmann in the southern electorate of Canberra?
Will he get into a preselection brawl with sitting Liberal Senator Gary Humphries?
Will he stay on for another four years as opposition leader in the ACT Assembly.
The best move for Zed would be knocking over Gazza. The best move for the party would be running against Gai.
Another four years in the Assembly would probably not be good for anyone.
“Another four years in the Assembly would probably not be good for anyone.”
Although it may save us from the likelihood of a Brendan Smyth promotion to opposition leader. In turn, Katie Gallagher may think that could be the best news ever!
Gary wants to be on Tony’s front bench .. that way, we can be assured of offices full of plants but no staff. There’s so much to look forward to.
I want to see “Labor + Greens = triple rates” taken national.

Wouldn’t be Brendan.

I think you’ll find Mr Hanson would be the new leader. And about bloody time.
I hope we have a good Liberal candidate in Canberra and that they get elected so we can have lower house representation in the new government.
Gai Brodtman is a national joke and an embarrassment. Her speech on superannuation was widely lampooned and became the subject of a satirical song on Ray Hadley’s 2GB show. When that happens it is time to go.

You think it’s time for her to go? She hasn’t even sat down yet.
For the record, I agree.

One of those not real bright people then are you?

Have my rates tripled yet? Will they really triple in real terms?
When the next local election takes place have a real hard look at your rates and see if they have tripled.
In any case if any government was going to triple rates it would be political suicide. Pensioners and struggling families cary a lot of weight politically and creating a scare campaign works well. If they were going to disadvantaged it would never get through costings.

Yup, and if Zed was to win Canberra, which given his vote in the ACT election isn’t totally out of the question, though certainly not overly likely the ACT would be 50:50 in both the Senate and the House.
At the very least it’d be interesting to see the result in an election where the Libs aren’t running a nobody as a candidate.
Presuming Abbott will win, the best possible outcome for Canberra IMO would be one where he has a smallish margin of seats – half a dozen or less, and the Division of Canberra becomes a marginal liberal seat. Would still probably be worse than the status quo, at least in the short term, but it’d be a better situation than after 1996.
Bullet Train for Australia Party!!

At least she has got the message about changing the traditional Annette Ellis (and a great local member she was) Christmas greeting on the end of year mail out to the PC “safe and happy festive season” nonsense.
This was done with the intent of not offending electors who weren’t Christians (no idea which group that was) but in fact she offended a lot of people who were uncomfortable with the change so she has changed it to the staus quo. It took her two years though – she is a slow learner.
She also doesn’t return phone calls. She will have to work very hard to retain her seat.
