Woman found dead in the Queanbeyan River

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a woman’s body in a river near the ACT border today.

About 2.40pm the body of a woman, believed to be aged in her 60s, was located in the Queanbeyan River.

Police from Monaro Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene which was examined by specialist forensic officers.

Although the body has not yet been formally identified, police believe the deceased is a Queanbeyan woman reported missing on Monday (30 July 2012).

A post mortem will be conducted to help determine the cause of death, however police do not believe the death is suspicious.
