A woman who was caught in Bungendore yesterday with a one-year-old unrestrained in the back of her car as she attempted to start it returned a 0.312 reading in a breath test.

About 3pm yesterday, the woman was stopped by police while attempting to start her vehicle at a local sporting oval at Bungendore. Police had been alerted to the vehicle being driven along the highway by other motorists. At the time there was heavy traffic on the Kings Highway coming from the direction of the coast.

On closer inspection it was found that there was a one-year-old child in the rear seat unrestrained.

The woman underwent a roadside breath test which showed positive for alcohol. She was subsequently arrested and taken to the Bungendore Police Station where she underwent a breath analysis which returned a reading of 0.312 grams of alcohol in 210 litres of breath.

The woman will appear at the Queanbeyan Local Court on Monday, March 14.
