Hi All,

The Canberra women’s team have made the grand final of the soccer- I believe it is to be held this Saturday in Canberra.

Does anyone have any details of where it’s at/starting time etc? It would be great to get out there and support the girls!

I wasn’t there as I live in the UK but from photos of the game, it looked like they could have squeezed more people in quite safely (but I’ll stand corrected if anyone who was there says otherwise!).

The official crowd figure today was just over 2500. The ground itself could have held another 1000 or more but I believe they are limited by available facilities. (Interestingly the capacity is listed as 2000, with 460 seated.)

ugh, stupid phone cut me off!
I also wanted to say that the comment about fair weather supporters was a bit harsh… I don’t think Canberra gets many such opportunities to see international players do what they do best.

There’s been loads of chances to see these international players – there’s been a home game every second week for the last 3 or 4 months. To be fair though, Canberra United have had the best crowds of any W-League side throughout the season. Just a shame they had to cap the stadium capacity at McKellar to what they did. Found out about Canberra hosting the w league final last weekend when they won the semi. Seemed like a fantastic opportunity to see some of our international players in action and support a local team at the same time.k

Just go out to McKellar. Never sold out before and never likely to

Wrong. Tickets sold out yesterday. Those who actually attend games on a regular basis probably got in first. I’m ambivalent about ‘supporters’ who only know how to turn up when it’s finals ..

So why didn’t they book Canberra Stadium for the game? Although 3000 – 4000-odd fans wouldn’t exactly fill the place, at least everyone who wanted to see the game live – could.

or viking park? No idea if the grounds are in good enough condition to handle it, but it’d be a start? Or hire a temporary grandstand or two?

Game is live on ABC1 from 2.50pm.

Erm….. disregard my last post. Seems the game has sold out. Full house at McKellar tomorrow!

McKellar was 650 short of a capacity crowd on Saturday for the semi-final, so I expect this one will sell out. Should be able to get tickets on the gate if you arrive early enough.

Yep Canberra United in the W-League football grand final this Saturday. MacKellar Park at 3pm. My sources tell me that the tickets are selling fast so better get in quick! Also live on ABC if you miss out.

The Canberra W-League team is based at the Belconnen soccer club in McKellar. Heres the info on times and ticket prices from their website.
