Workshops to determine Tidbinbilla future?

Here’s a new twist on public consultation.

Jon Stanhope has announced that if you want to have your say on the new plan of management for the Tidbinbilla nature reserve (and, interestingly, Block 60 on Paddys River) you’ll need to pre-register for, and then attend one of three closed “workshops”. The workshops start today and run through to Wednesday.

One has no doubt that once the convenors are done and the results are assimilated and moderated this consultation will produced the desired outcomes.

Oh but wait… While the announcement of this process was made today, the registrations for the workshops closed last week:

“Register for a workshop by emailing ParksConservationAndLands@act.gov.au or by calling CanberraConnect on 13 22 81. Registrations close 5pm, Thursday 12 February 2009.”

You have, however, got until 26 February to comment on the discussion paper for what that’s worth.

Went out there today for the “Extravaganza” and it was free. Great place and great volunteers. Anyone know when/ if the fees come in?

Too funny! So typical.

Welcome to ‘community consultation’ act style.

At least these workshops are not in the school holidays.

“But the plans were on display…”
“On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them.”
“That’s the display department.”
“With a flashlight.”
“Ah, well, the lights had probably gone.”
“So had the stairs.”
“But look, you found the notice, didn’t you?”
“Yes,” said Arthur, “yes I did. It was on display on the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard’.”

Looks like they’ve reneged and people are allowed to register for the ‘workshops’. At least, the section stating the cut-off date has now been removed.
