Has anyone noticed any other Canberra streets having their names changed - and for what reasons?

Does anyone know why this change has occurred? What was wrong with Minnie Bruce that she had to be killed off like that? Interestingly, I thought the original street name theme for Franklin was female writers, but now it seems to be “authors - especially female authors”. Am I just imagining this change or not?

Tonight a RiotACT detachment makes a rare trip south to conduct the Sim Challenge on the turf of Liberal candidate for Brindabella, David Morgan (aka “Morgo” on his facebook ads).

So from 6pm they will be found in the Ojo Bar in the Hyperdome courtyard.

Southern Rioters are encouraged to make the most of this appearance.

I was rather looking forward to this adventure but it’s clashing with my mother’s birthday.

Last Friday on my way home from work I took my normal route back to Chisholm. After the roundabout turnoff on the Monaro I got stuck behind a silver VN Commodore sitting in the right hand lane doing 70km/h up the hill in an 80km/h zone with no one in the left hand lane on Isabella Drive.

As a result I used the left hand lane and overtook said person as he wasn’t doing the limit and the left lane was empty. I got 50 metres up the road before said person decided to take offense to my driving. Somehow I had taken a piss on his precious bit of road and he didn’t like it.

Said person then decided to floor it to catch up to me clearly breaking the speed limit in the process. He then tailgated me, flashing his high beams on and off repeatedly to blind me in my rear vision mirror and then proceeded to pull up next to me in the left hand lane giving me the finger….what the? Perhaps he had just overdosed on Roids?

The idiot then turned left at the next roundabout… Why was he in the right hand lane to begin with?

Perhaps I should have slammed on the brakes so he smashed into the back of my ute or followed him home and put a brick through his window/face?

What do Rioters suggest we do with such moronic Canberra drivers on our roads?

The twelve hour, four stage extravaganza will feature a veritable who’s who of Canberra musical talent from a wide variety of genres.

Highlights for mine are Fred Smith, the Haunted Attics, Smitten, The Ellis Collective, The Fuellers, Julia and the DSS, and the Cashews. But there’s a huge amount of great stuff there.

It’s going to be a big one. I’ll just have to record the rugby.

UPDATED: And a huge boo to the In The Mix crowd who thought the CMC free standing signage would be improved by their posters.

The Riot 501st were deployed to the streets of Belconnen to see what gems could be unearthed from Second Hand Sunday.

They returned bearing some rather spiffy decanters and pictures of the variable quality goods to be had on the side of Canberra roads today.

• ABC Local News - no where to be seen I have been at lots of these election gigs and I have never seen them. We all know that the ABC has plenty of lefties in it but they should at least be out and about not just running every media release that the Government put out.

• And Jorian from the (Sh)cityNews (not that many people actually read it) is the #1 fan and national president of the “We love Jon Stanhope Fan club”.

With the crap that the Stanhope Government has done in the past 4 years makes NSW look like a functional open democracy. What are we to do?

Shopping centres for a few years now have played music in their hinterlands intended to drive away scruffy teenagers without being too objectionable to grown-ups with money.

So what are the stand outs for you in the different shopping precincts of Canberra?

I have left the local 666 and switched over to Radio National because I was just sick and tired of Ross Solly.

I stumbled on 666 this morning and was pleasently surprised to hear David’s voice.

Has anyone got any idea on how long we can enjoy this welcome pleasure?

So rather than swamp the front page with election news we’ll have one page devoted to the doings of the day, updated as material comes to hand.

Labor:

Katy Gallagher is promising the establishment of a Centre for Adolescent Health in the ACT if Labor is re-elected.

“A Centre for Adolescent Health in the ACT would be the first of its kind for the region, with an aim to improving the overall health of young people from an early intervention, prevention and holistic perspective,” Ms. Gallagher said.

“An Centre for Adolescent Health could deliver health services such as:

– sexual health and sexuality;
– Complex Gynaecological;
– chronic health;
– eating disorders;
– services for disadvantaged youth;
– mental health;
– immunisations;
– drug and alcohol services;
– health promotion; and
– behavioural and learning problems.”

Katy’s also promising to focus on men’s health.

Apparently some deal has been done and Woden Tradies are hoping to build two 15 (or is it 20?) story towers on the site of their existing building and maybe a car park?

I love spring, and canberra is one of the best places in the world to experience this season.

Feel free to add superlatives about spring in the capital.

The radio spots feature three original recordings by Peter (Herman) Noone and the original Hermits.  2CC’s website shows a picture of the original 1960s Hermits, including Peter, and one deceased member Dereck Leckenby.

The general intent of the advertising is to make ticket-holders think they are going to see the original Herman’s Hermits.  But, they are not!!!!  This is pure, unadulterated, misleading, fraudulent misrepresentation.

The only original Hermit in this touring band is Barry Whitwam, the former non-singing drummer, now in his 60s, but the rest of the band members are contemporary musicians who had nothing whatsoever to do with the million-selling hits by the original band.

I have passed this information on to Radio 2CC, Casino Canberra and the Canberra Times, as well as other venues in NSW where the band has been playing.  There have been a few cases of audience members asking for their money back when they realise that they have been duped, when they find out that this is merely a “tribute” band and not the real thing.

The radio station and some of the venues sent me patronising “hope to see you at the show” letters as if I am some sort of a crackpot.  The Casino and the Canberra Times have not replied.

As a long-term fan of the REAL Herman’s Hermits, I am disgusted at this blatent fraud.  I have had emails from several musicians and music historians supporting me, including Paul Mlynarz of the official Manchesterbeat website, and a very supportive email from Peter (Herman) Noone himself, telling me that he has virtually given up trying to stop these “Hermanless Hermits”, as he calls them, making money off his name, image and music.

Anybody out there cares about this sort of commercial fraud & exploitation?  Meanwhile, Barry Whitwam and his band of ring-ins go ahead at the Canberra Casino on 15th and 16th September.
