Writing for TV - From Home & Away to Underbelly and Beyond with Felicity Packard

This public seminar introduces participants to the realities of writing drama for television in Australia. Felicity will discuss how story departments, networks and independent producers operate and the role of the writer in a variety of TV drama modes as well as giving some tips on how to get your own original TV drama ideas past the inbox.

Felicity Packard is a lecturer in the Creative Writing program at the University of Canberra. Her particular area of interest is screenwriting and she has worked as a freelance scriptwriter and editor for over fifteen years.

Her TV credits include G.P., Blue Heelers, MDA, Home & Away, McLeod’s Daughters and Sea Patrol and the upcoming drama series The Strip, as well as the critical and ratings success Underbelly.

Felicity was one of the three writers behind Underbelly, a 13 part miniseries dramatising the Melbourne gangland war. In May 2008, Underbelly received the Henry Lawson Literary Festival award for “Best TV Drama”.
