You must be joking! Geraldine Nordfeldt and WIN

Does anyone else think that former WIN news reporter Geraldine Nordfeldt might be holding a grudge against her old WIN buddies? I was going though this mornings canberra times and noticed in the “Today” section written by Nordfeldt that she had a go at WIN News for mocking up a shot of inmates being taken to the new gaol, when infact, the van pictured was empty. The piece ended with the sarcastic line “What a scoop.”

Are we to believe that in her years at WIN she never wrote a story containing shots that were “mocked up” for the camera? Or contained information that was misleading?

This came after a dig about a month ago about the low ratings WIN News had (probably due to her absence) compared to that of high profile drama “Underbelly”.

Yeah, I hate how we’re forced at gunpoint to watch WIN News.

Oh yeah because that’s what I said right….

Geraldine needs to keep her mind on her current job and not her previous one at win television. It makes for a refreshing change not to have to listen to her on the TV anymore. At least we can skip her article/dribble featured in the Canberra times as we please. I’m sure if Geraldine is a cut troat journalist like she tries to make out, she won’t mind a bit of return fire….. She never should have been on TV in the first place. Sorry but it really annoys me how would-be journalists exploit their position to address their own personal hang ups. This is what gives media a bad name. GROW UP!!!

Well, I reckon all these newbies prove what’s been known here for a long time about our “journalists”…

Motherman09 from my understanding you are 100% right with your story.

For the record though, there were many reasons that the chief of staff at the time was sacked. It was not just letting this one story through… The man was an idiot.

motherman09, pretty sure WIN would have defamation insurance.

And if a journo isn’t putting noses out of joint they’re not a journo, just a cheerleader.

Geraldine is a good reporter.

I don’t know the whole story about the defamation but I think in her new role she’s bound to put a few noses out of place.

So it’s expected.

But I don’t think WIn has ever appeared so much in the CT until she started working there.

Storm in a tea cup

“When a journalist can’t ask a tough (yet legitimate) question of our Dear Leader without their employer pulling the pin, well… I guess you’re in Canberra!”

I agree.. 100%!!!! Which is why i’m so shocked the real story never ended up on here. It’s still laughed about in legal circles – easiest money some executives ever made!!!!

Last year the reporter in question ran a news story claiming a gov’t company was ‘corrupt’. But she had no proof at all and completely misquoted a report. Which I would have thought is journalism 1-0-1. Stupid!

The company then pursued win and her for defamation damages. Not having a leg to stand on, I believe win sacked their chief of staff for being so dumb to let the story go to air.

But they didn’t sack the reporter. They warned her.

Even though, here’s the amazing bit, the whole saga cost win (inc. legal costs) the better part of a million dollars.

I know i would have fired her if she cost me that much.

And someone should ask her… didn’t she leave on her own accord?

I wonder what the press releases answer back when she asks them the tough questions?

Riled by Ms Wright?! You make it sound as if SHE was attacking the RiotACT. I suspect SHE was RILED instead.

I tell ya – I’m over journalists who don’t reference the RiotACT for their stories suddenly posting when it suits them.

Geraldine was unfairly treated by WIN. When a journalist can’t ask a tough (yet legitimate) question of our Dear Leader without their employer pulling the pin, well… I guess you’re in Canberra!

I reckon Geraldine’s doing a great job at the CT.

PS – She’s good looking too! — I know you’re reading, Geraldine 😉

It’s not a large leap considering the attention she gets here…

@ post 14.

That’s actually not who I was thinking of… but quite hilarious that she’s obviously the first that springs to your mind.

Also, Jessica wrote the original story on Geraldine’s shabby treatment at WIN. She now works from the Press Gallery and Geraldine filled the vacant Today column.

Its me, Ricci, Mr Magoo. Geraldine covered a number of stories that I was involved with over the years, including when she was with WIN and the CT. I found her to be straightforward and professional, unlike many other people in the media (particularly the previous Editor of th CT).

Having worked with (and against) media over many, many years, I am quite happy with the way she operated, at least in the areas I was covering.

A line-dancing horse is a page-one pic all day long.

Maybe we should flog the line-dancing horse?

Um .. I’m not over it yet. I’ve never heard of her before.

Then again, the last time I read the Canberra Times they were featuring a line-dancing horse on the frickin’ cover.

Meh. Gripes and grudges aside, I find her column infinitely more interesting to read than that of her vapid blonde predecessor.

Who was that?

Nothing like flogging a dead horse.

I doubt her boss would agree after a nasty incident involving Geraldine and her old work a few weeks back.

Bitter?
No way. (coughs)

Can’t say I blame her.

My memory of the ‘defamation’ was that she was quoting out of the report. I think the defamation threat was more about keeping the deck organised just before an election.

Perhaps it’s the Negus effect – leaving commercial television suddenly frees the real journalist that’s been imprisoned within. Do REAL journalists even use the word ‘scoop’ anymore? It’s a bit gee whillikers, Mr Wilson, isn’t it?

Where’s Jimmy Olsen these days anyway?

I think her picture looking good on the back page would have had more to do with that.

And having the network of contacts needed to do that back page gig.

Geraldine Nordfeldt has held a grudge with WIN ever since she wrote a rather defamatory piece involving the Government last year which led to her demotion and the sacking of the then Chief of Staff.

The Canberra Times got the scoop on this scandal after Nordfeldt herself leaked the story to them. You have to wonder what else Nordfeldt leaked to the Times during her period at WIN?

Maybe this is how she got her position as their back page fluff piece writer?

Sounds a bit rich coming from a newspaper which can’t even spell the word “Gallipoli”.

A Noisy Noise Annoys An Oyster11:19 am 01 Apr 09

Was this the CT’s April Fool’s Day joke?

mr stanhopeless11:17 am 01 Apr 09

Perhaps Geraldine’s just playing the joker, and it’s all fun and games between her and her old work colleagues. But I suspect there’s more bitterness to the relationship these days…
