News.com.au has the sad tale (thanks to Jessieduck for the heads up) of a young Canberra man coming unstuck at Mt Buller:

The Canberra man’s body was found at about 11am (AEST) near Saint Christopher’s Creek, 1km from the popular mountain village and ski spot, the Herald Sun reports.

Police have revealed the man left a licensed venue at 10.30pm last night by himself.

It is believed he got lost shortly after and wandered into bushland.

Condolences to his friends and family.

That’s very sad indeed.

However, the frequency with which this happens should demonstrate how difficult it is to do.

There has been a lot of white-out and high winds in the mountains over the last week. I boarded right over a drop-off that was quite invisible, so this is understandable. A great shame.
