After Zed’s victorious campaign against the Pogos over the weekend he has now turned his mighty gaze onto the residents of Lanyon Valley and is wondering why Labor hasn’t given them a pool yet.
In the Assembly today, Mr Seselja will call on the ACT Labor Government to outline when they will develop more community facilities for the Lanyon Valley residents.
“For too long the people of the Lanyon Valley have not had reasonable access to important community facilities like a pool, community meeting areas, a public library or recreational facilities,” said Mr Seselja.
At the 2012 election, following an extensive period of community engagement and feedback, the Canberra Liberals promised to build an indoor pool in Lanyon Valley.
The Government has been asking for Zed to step down from his committee roles after he defeated Senator Gary Humphries in the Canberra Liberals preselection contest. In a move that surprises exactly nobody, Zed seems to have decided not to listen to the Government and instead is doing whatever he wants.
Also why should he listen to them? They won’t even give Lanyon Valley a pool!

Obviously driving 5 minutes to tuggeranong or erindale pool is too much for Lanyonites? Or does Zed want to keep them in the lanyon valley as much as possible so they don’t leave?

But seriously tho, perhaps Zed wants to donate his pay to the cause? Perhaps then the taxpayers may feel like we’re getting something out of it.

Terrible campaigning from Zed. If he’s going to win that Senate seat, he has to reference the incompetence of the Gillard Government in every local issue he gets involved in.
For example: “The people of Lanyon need a pool. Much like the pool of lies and deceit the Prime Minister finds herself wallowing in on a daily basis”.
This is too rich. You’ve abandoned the electorate Zed, stop pretending to do your old job and piss off to Parliament already.

Has anyone from Lanyon Valley ever asked for these facilities? As Watto says the Tugg facilities are only 5 mins away – ditto for Erindale. I assumed everyone else was happy to go there like we do…..seems like “reasonable” access to me.
The folks in Lanyon are closer to Tidbinbilla and Tharwa than the rest of Canberra.
What is the current attendance at Tuggeranong Aquatic Centre? How much business will they lose if a pool/gym opens up in Lanyon?

It was new to me and I had not heard of it until the election, nor heard anyone talk of it since. I personally don’t think we need it, we have a community nursing centre and all the major stuff is in Tuggeranong. I would rather see the money go there for upgrades than wasting time & resources on building new stuff.
Seriously though Lanyon should at least have a library. Holt has one FFS.
A library may prove useful, and need only be a similar size to that at Kingston branch.
A pool? Why? We have two in Tuggeranong that can be accessed. Want Lanyonites to visit them? Fix the dodgy public transport issues.
Community meeting areas? I’d leverage the facilities available at the local club or at Mura.
I’d much rather see some cooperative consultation between the ACT, NSW and Federales about getting a decent road across the Brindabellas to Tumut,
You can’t put a library in a pool. The books would get all wet.
Lanyon residents can’t go Tuggeranong pool 3 minutes down the road. On this basis Hall has been waiting for a pool since 1911.

Demand for a pool in Lanyon Valley has probably been lower then you might think, cause they have much closer access to Point Hut Crossing (about ten minutes for a teenager on a pushie then most of the city. So the serious, vocal, segment of the community that you would normally hear on Today Tonight after a hot week in summer find something else to whinge about.
Somebody needs to explain to Zed how this politics thing works. It’s not all branch stacks and shenanigans because you got staff on the management committee in the real world you know.
The way it works is this:
If you don’t vote for the government you don’t get, simple. Because, let’s face it, if you’re not going to vote for us, why should we do anything for you?
If you do vote for the government, you don’t get. Because, if you’re too stupid to change your vote and put us on a knife edge, we’re going to take you for granted; and you get nothing.
Now sod off and stop asking us for stuff.
