Frame Works is a unique series of new dance works by young artists “exploring portraiture, identity and framing across the Visual Arts and Dance worlds.

“Under the combined title of Frame Works, these pieces will be presented in a range of evocative sites within the Gallery. Some of the works will last only a few minutes and will be performed in direct response to the presence of viewers, while others will run in a “durational loop” for 60 minutes at a time.Over a four-week intensive period, the Soft Landing 2 mentoring program (at the QL2 Centre for Youth Dance) has been providing seven tertiary dance graduates with the opportunity to enrich and expand their experiences in choreography, specifically focussing on the “choreographer in solo practice”. Working in collaboration with staff from the National Portrait Gallery, each of these young dance artists is creating a stand-alone solo performance work.

Associate Director at QL2, project leader Brian Lucas, says “The artists are focussing on the dual territories of biographical and autobiographical creation and performance, using external portraiture as a starting point”.

OT: if you’re coming to see the Vanity Fair Portraits before it closes on Sunday, you can see “Frame Works” at the same time.

“Frame Works” and the rest of the gallery are free. The Vanity Fair bit has an entrance fee.

There’s a few pics of the performances here .

BTW, while each run goes for an hour, there’s no particular order you need to watch them in, and you can just see certain ones if you want. Some require a bit of hunting down – you can get a map from the desk, or ask the staff. Start in the foyer at the start time, and they’ll spread out from there.

{BTW Thanks for fixing the paragraphing, riotpost! Is there some combination of browser and platform that is known to work reliably for posting here? Or is it a phase-of-the-moon thing…}

For some reason the site just wasn’t working for me yesterday, with 3 out of 5 posts approved yesterday being de-paragraphed as you put it. I have gone back and rectified things but apologies to both the authors and readers.

Another post falls victim to the wordpress de-paragraphing monster.

Anyone have any advice how to post something here so its paragraphs stay separate?
