The Department of Territory and Municipal Services are letting us know they’ve been hard at work patching Canberra’s decaying roads:

This year to date 3000 potholes on ACT roads have been repaired, 1300 more than for the
same period last year, Ken Marshall, Manager of Road Maintenance Services, announced today.

“The extended wet weather period experienced this year has intensified the need to boost road maintenance staff to fill the increased number of potholes,” Mr Marshall said.

“The increase in wet weather combined with stronger traffic flows can create additional potholes on highly trafficked sections of road such as the Barton Highway, Gungahlin Drive and Sutton Road.”

Canberra Connect have a special pothole reporting page or you can call 13 22 81.

Excuse me, I won’t sit here and let anyone speak negatively about TAMS. They do so much for this city and its people.

ACT Government = FAIL

#9,10,11…how droll. Makes me want to wake “up, get out of bed and drag a comb across my head”…

@Anna Key Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall (they being ACT Heritage).

@Thumper Blackburn, Pearce, actually.

re the Jetpatcher and the Sunshine Coast, at a rough guess I would think the amount of roads and distance covered would be similar. However they are more spread out in Maroochy, with greater distance between towns. IIRC there were two jetpatchers.

That’s the Canberra way

Can they go back and fix them properly now? All the ones I have seen that have been “fixed” look like they have been the quickest and dodgiest way possible.

I read the news today oh boy
4000 holes on athllon, tuggeranong

Amarooresident: unsure the relevance of that, but the now Sunshine Coast Regional Council covers 3127 sq kms, has over 4000kms of roads, 800kms of bikepaths, 133 sq kms of waterways, 200kms of coastline and over 13000ha of parklands – plenty to look after in anyone’s books I would have thought? Maroochy would have covered a bit over half of that, as one of the largest local governments in Australia, and the 5th fastest growing at that time.

I don’t recall whether Maroochy had one or two Jetpatchers, but they had no problems keeping up with pothole repairs. The basics got plenty of attention in our council, issues that often seem to be all a bit too much for our government here to cope with.

How many km’s of road did Maroochy Shire look after?

Are they still contracting it out to the very efficient private sector (Patches or somesuch)?

I have said multiple times, if they can’t keep up with road repairs during a drought, how the hell are they going to cope when it starts raining again? Clearly the answer is “they’re not”.

I don’t understand why they don’t go out and buy a couple of JetPatchers. We had them in Maroochy Shire and they had no problem keeping up with repairs – with far greater rainfall!
